Agreed. I am an LEO and one of my recent roles prior to promotion was in procuring equipment. Everything from vehicle acquisition and outfitting to weapon storage solutions. I was curious about a certain company's clasping lock one day, musing in the shop. Thought about how solenoids and such work...took a magnet that was mounted on the vehicle life used to hold paperwork...viola. Spoke to my Chief about the discovery, then sent him a video via text. Next course of action was a call to Seti.... Advised them that the product they sell has serious safety flaw and would like to send them back. They basically said I was stuck with them due to various procurement rules ad regs. So, found a loophole in our contacting manual and regs regarding 'faulty and/or unsafe equipment and assumed liability'. To make this short, all 32 racks went back.

I did work on an old woman's house once. She live kind of out in the sticks, and she just yelled "come in!" When I knocked on her door for an evaluation. I wasn't in a marked vehicle and I was only wearing plain clothes, no company markings anywhere. She didn't have an appointment because my scheduler said she was always home. Now, I used to live in the country, so I get it, but my dad was a huge dude and knew how to handle himself, so I was never worried. This old woman though? I figured she'd be more cautious. After a few minutes I asked her why she didn't lock the door and she said "It only keeps the good people out." I only started to watch your channel somewhat recently, but I can already tell she was right this whole time.
@herzglass3 жыл бұрын
I always try and tell people not to be overly worried about locking everything up. "If someone comes to to your house with the intent to get in, they most certainly will." Only thing they might offer serious security is an alarm system and even these give professionals a couple of minutes to get what's really valuable. Indeed a family I know had their beautiful wide wooden stairs ruined because the burglar's threw the small safe down the stairs. The damage it did was a lot more worth than anything inside it.
@artful19673 жыл бұрын
@@herzglass the point in locking things up is not to make it impossible for a determined thief. It is to make it not worth the effort. If you have a security system and good locks and a guard dog and cameras etc and the house next door doesn't then they will go to the easier house
@herzglass3 жыл бұрын
@@artful1967 I am aware of that. That's why easy to carry valuables should not be kept at home. There is no harm in having good locks, doors and windows and maybe additional security, but as soon as it becomes a pricy investment, it's worth to consider locking stuff up someplace else. Again, I know some examples of the burglars trying to bypass existing security making the damage a lot pricier, than just leaving your door unlocked.

We spent hours digging. It was the middle of summer but the midnight air was cool and crisp. Our hands and eyes were focused on our work, but our ears strained against the gentle wind, listening for any sign that we'd been spotted. You remarked on the weather. There was a thin but broad cloud cover that night. You remarked that you couldn't see the stars. It was the only thing you said that night. The coffin was ancient stone, carved by a dedicated hand with old old tools. I ran my fingers along the rim of the lid, feeling the ancient brass clasps. I looked up at you to say you were right, but you only stared down at me, just a pair of eyes framed by a scarf and a hood, lit only by the dim glow of the camping lantern. It was some mixture of interest tinged with pity and the barest sliver of something I couldn't quite place. It started to rain, but only just. I felt the latches again. It was faint, a whisper, but unmistakably deep, like the feeling in your bones before a rainstorm. I looked up, you had stepped back. You knew what was going to happen next, what had to happen next. I began to read the inscription on the coffins lid. The words felt warm in my mouth. I felt my neck begin to tremble as I recited line after line of faux-latin, I surpressed the reflex as my voice grew louder and louder, the rain was falling harder, the words were hot in my throat, the words grew louder, the rain was falling in sheets, I had to shout over the churning wind, my voice was louder than it should have been, the rain was falling harder, my voice was louder than any voice could ever be, the words singed my throat, my words echoed past my ears, past the sodden earth, past time, past the veil, as I read the final line I felt that the words would burn my throat to ash when lightning struck the coffin. All was quiet. The rain had stopped. For a moment, I could see the stars. We listened. THUD. There was a noise like a great stone fist slamming against the coffin lid. The runes flashed with arcane light. THUD. There came another, but this time with even greater force. I felt the coffin shake beneath me. The runes flashed, brighter this time, straining against the force. THUD. With a final cyanean crash against the coffin lid, thing inside was silent, and the world breathed a sigh of relief. The seal held. I looked up again and saw you, hand outstretched, regarding me with that same strange look. I righted myself, and reached out to take your hand, when we heard a sound that stopped dead in our tracks. Whispering. I threw myself to the coffin, pressing my ear to the lid, straining to hear what the voice was saying. It spoke, "this is TheLockPickingLawyer, and today I am going to show you one of the least secure ritual seals I have ever seen."

So you're telling me a kindergartner with a Thomas the Tank Engine fridge magnet can get a hold of an AR-15? The locks on the cruiser's doors are more secure than this.
@Mattjammar4 жыл бұрын
The locks being more secure on the cruiser's doors is the point. These are gun wracks with a lock; they're designed for ease of access by the officer. You'll notice there are wires coming from it which means there would be a switch designed to open it without the key for quick access (the keyed entry being a failsafe in the case of an electrical failure). If they wanted it to be inaccessible they would have a gun safe built in to the car, but that would mean it would take longer for the officer to access it (which can put lives at risk).

Found a price for an ELS 210 for about $280 USD. This will be more expensive. They're currently on the ELS 600 currently being sold, but I couldn't find a price. Likely one of those things where they negotiate a price specifically with the buyer... Which is always worrying. I'm curious to see how their ELS 600 is, but I'm not sure how much it matters, since most police cruisers are probably using older less secure models like this anyways, since they probably bought them a few years ago and people are always slow to upgrade things like these because it's expensive and a hassle if it's serving its purpose. Honestly though, I think what should happen is that the company at the very least be replacing these older models for free since there's such a massive security flaw that shows nothing less than pure negligence on their part to the point it can still be seen as misrepresenting their product.

That reminds me of when I was a teenager living in one of the biggest concrete suburban areas in Denmark. At one point someone decided to put locks on all front doors to the stairways to the apartments. Probably to keep out loitering teenagers like my self. Some residents thought it was to protect them from burglars and the like. Some of my friends was living in the area that had the locks installed first and was very proud of them. That was until I showed them how to open the door with a plastic card faster than they could do it with their key. After a couple off months we found out that the fastest way to open the doors simply was to give them a good push. When the problem finally was taken to the lock company their defense was that off course the locks did not work properly when they was not handled properly :-/ The apartment company ended up finding another lock company. And we had some stronger locks with less access for plastic cards. And a declaration was made that now buglers could not enter. Then us teenagers pointed out that it would be quite easy to break the window next to the door and gain access to the lock from inside that way. Then the entire front to the stairways was rebuild. I think the hole problem was that nobody tried to think like the people they tried to keep out. And nobody realized that you can make it harder for people to gain entry. But if they really want to gain access they can always find a way.

No1Agge Back in 1989 the GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation) got a new token ring network and I worked for the company that installed it. We were pulling wires all over the building and had to move from one secure section to another. It was tedious waiting for somone to open the doors for us. You see they had a very fancy mag stripe card reader at every door that communicated serially to a PC in the guard’s desk. The PC would decide if the door should be opened and send a signal to buzz the lock. What we found while running wires was that the electronics were in a steel box in the ceiling that wasn’t locked. And with a small screw driver we could put the 24v relay via a convenient hole in teh relay dust cover and buzz ourselves in. We got caught once and the agent asked us how we got the door open... my smart alek coworker said he’d used his “tillie” card (atm card for a bank in Atlanta at that time.

So what I've learned: Besides 50 cent locks for kids the worst locks are: - "smart" locks in gerneral - everything to protect weapons like this one or gun safes. Even locks for booze bottles are more secure. It's almost like guns are the least important things in the world. Well maybe they expect everyone to alread have one - so why bother. At least we all know where and how to easily get one in case of a zombie apocalypse.

Any gun 'safe' that doesn't have at least a UL RSC rating is a total joke, but it probably has a nice paint job. RSC just means it can resist an adult with a screwdriver for 5 minutes. It isn't the lock, it's the shell that gets attacked. For real security you need a TL rated safe. Or a used GSA class 5 container.
