Locomotive Smoking Like Steam Engine, Indiana & Ohio Railway Grain Train, Strange Railroad Crossing!

CSX Pulling Indiana And Ohio Railway Grain Train In Sabina, Ohio. Smoky Locomotive Acting Just Like A Steam Locomotive Pulling A Heavy Train On A Tight Curve. Friendly CSX Conductor Waving To Railfans From A Fast Intermodal Train In Greenwich, Ohio At 5 Track Railroad Crossing. Norfolk Southern Mixed Freight With DPU Shoving The Rear At Weird Railroad Crossing. This railroad crossing for the last train only has a single bell and cross bucks and that's it! Have you ever seen a railroad crossing like that? It is located on the NS Rat Hole Line north of Lexington, Kentucky near the town of Sadieville.
This is a mixture of trains from several different locations. I filmed the first train on the Indiana & Ohio Railway Midland Sub just north of Sabina, Ohio. This is probably a CSX run through grain train running south. CSX actually owns this line and I&O leases it from them. This is an agricultural area just north east of my home. I don't film it a whole lot because there aren't that many trains on it. I recently found out that one of the night trains is now going to go on duty at 8am in Washington Court House so I might start filming more on the line. Stay tuned.
The next stop was filmed on the same day just a few hours later in Greenwich, Ohio. Look how much smoke is coming from that CSX locomotive! What causes that and is this rare? The third train was filmed right after the second train and at the same location. We see a friendly conductor wave to the railfans. That was awesome! The railroad crossing here has 5 tracks spread out over a big area.
The fourth train is a Norfolk Southern mixed freight with a DPU on the rear. I filmed this one a few day prior to the other trains and it is located north of Lexington, Kentucky on the Norfolk Southern Rat Hole Line that runs from Cincinnati, Ohio to Chattanooga, Tennessee. Check out this weird railroad crossing! It only has two cross bucks and one bell! There is an electrical shanty and pole with electric meter for the bell. All of that equipment just for one bell. I know of three railroad crossings like this. I believe that the road was changed at one time and the railroad flashers were removed. What do you think?

That was a very good NS mixed freight with a UP helper and a DPU! There was 122 well mixed cars in between. There were lots of newer looking covered hoppers and tank cars. Great catch JT! 😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤

That lead shot with the Train Running parallel to the uniform planting rows leading that string of cylindrical covered hoppers looks real sharp and eye pleasing. That sweeping curve with much of the train visible behind it as the trailing unit smokes it up. Then the last Freight at that non-standard Crossing seemed to have most of the cars arranged by type with Oddities like a spine car and an articulated autorack even a high Cube. Plus the two high horsepower canines to greet you upon your arrival. Perfect day!

When my youngest son, Luke Wiley (3 yrs old) wants to watch tv, he’ll come tell me that he wants to. I ask him what do you want to watch? His response: @JawTooth I say trains? He says, Jaw Tooth! His 4th birthday is today April 21st and he’d be so ecstatic if you’d be so kind to give a shoutout to him. Thanks for all this train footage! When we went to Thurmond, I told him we might run into you and he said, Jaw Tooth?! I said yep but the timing wasn’t right. We did get to catch a CSX open-top hopper there coming from Thayer from the south headed north towards Sewell. Maybe sometime though! Start the video son!

I like to see zoom or telephoto shots 5:15 not only of the approaching locomotives with exhaust smoke and heat shimmering but the US high iron especially on timber cross ties. The compression effect exacerbates the dog spike heads and rail anchor ends . Reminds me of my favourite US rail photographer the late Richard Steinheimer and his photography around Cajon and Tehachapi. Nice stuff Jaw Tooth. I also dig the dogs chooks and family stuff you tack on the end of yor videos. Rooster crows like the one next door to me. Regards Bruce retired engineer Australia.

Of all of the countryside crossings in Indiana I've seen with only crossbucks I have never seen one with a bell! Most of them in my area now have stop signs 🛑 but nothing else besides the crossbucks. If it's more of an arterial county road it may have gates, but only a very few of them. 😊😊

Supp JT, Ive been to that crossing with the Bell in KY, I love that area down there. A friend and I spent a couple days down there on NS and the CSX to Louisville a few years ago. I love that area also. There is a lot of things to see. You should also check out Sadieville and the tunnel under the tracks that you can drive through. The area is beautiful and remote.

Guess what happened 😢 Today Wyoming Ohio had a train derailment at the auto shop and some train cars derailed. At least no fire happened yet! I live 2 streets by the train tracks and it fell so hard! It happened Tonight at 8pm
