Hey Keen Mechanic, thanks for posting this. As a 30+ year rep for Loctite I thought I'd correct a couple of things for you. Loctite was founded in the US. Threadlocker is made in our two plants located in the US and Ireland. What you experienced is what we tell customers everyday. You get what you pay for. The Chinese threadlocker did not cure or barely at all. That is the risk you take when trying to save a few bucks. You should always buy your Loctite from our AUTHORIZED distributor in your home country. Never buy it online unless it is from an authorized distributor who sells on line. Many of our local distributors have online web pages. NEVER buy it from Amazon. They aren't authorized. Thanks again. Good Luck.

Hi David. Thank you for writing this message and for providing such detail about Loctite company, its origin and the location of the manufacturing sites. I am based in Northern Ireland, so musn't be too far from the Irish plant. I should have done more research as I might have missinformed my viewers a bit. I hope the viewers get the main point and make the right choice. Much appreciated 🤝

Wanting LOCTITE, I made a mistake ordering on line and what came was the Chinese produced LOCTTLF 243. I was disappointed in receiving a 'fake', but seeing what the results would be by using it, the bond is quite strong between bolt and nut, such that although I could loosen with hand tools, I was afraid that the force that was required to loosen might shear the 8mm bolt, it was that strong a bond. The residue on the bolt from the stuff is white. Recently I purchased a Henkel branded LOCTITE that is sold at a hardware store in Japan (my location), and though I assume that it is the real legit formula, on the bottle it also says 'made in China'.

Hi there I did another test, which sadly I didn't record on camera. What I did was actually I put the fake stuff on a bolt and nut and left it for 2 months and the stuff was still sticky and blue. Thanks so much! I was skeptical about some cheap Loctite in the Malaysian market. It had to be fake, your video proves em. In Malaysia they're not as delicate to sell as Locttfl, but with exact spelling Loctite. The fake ones about 1/3 of the price.

Hi there. I wanted to do the test so I can see how the fake Loctite performs vs the Genuine Loctite made by Henkel-Germany. The test shows all you need to know. I personaly decided to put the fake stuff in the bin as I don't think is worth the risk. You can find the fake Loctite here in the UK and it is spelt Loctite too, but has some chinese writing on it. I hope to have helped others to recognise the Genuine bottle from the fake. I am glad you found it helpful and thank you for watching and for writing a comment.

I had a closer look at my bottle, to my horror it is made in China, and looks pretty identical to the fakes/cheapos that are sold here online. But mine do hardens to white as you've shown. Sorry for the late reply, but even after updating my notification settings I still don't get notification for all my replies. Thanks for sharing my video, such a nice thing to do. I really appreciate it :) I am sure that there are a lot more fake/counterfeit products that we use on daily basis without even realizing. I watched a documentary about how China supplies most of the world with fake Honey and the industry in place to cover up the whole operation. They are finding it more and more difficult to stop the fake stuff coming in from China. It is even scarier when you think how many medicines are made there as well like Aspirin and most over the counter drugs you can buy are made there.

I have both the genuine Loctite 242/243 and Locttlf 242/243 and I prefer the Loctff as it is easier to apply and is more accepting to oil contamination. @@TheKeenMechanic I guess, if you want to save in costs, thread lock is probably not the right place to do it :-) I have a bottle of the standard blue Loctite which I have been using in telescopic sight mounts in high power IGT air rifles, with good results. Certain screws tend to become loose due to the very sharp forward "recoil" caused by the piston coming to a stop at the end of the air cylinder, which is hard on the telescopic sights.

Hi I learnt something new myself after posting this video. A guy from Loctite shated his 30+ year knowledge and explained that the loctite hardens when there is no oxigen so when you tighten parts then air is removed and it hardens. He also explained that the bottle is only half full and this is not a marketing trick but there needs to be more air in the bottle so the threadlocker doesn't harden. By the way, can I ask you for a small favour? I put a poll on the community tab of my channel and I would very much appreciate if you vote for your favourite spare part. They are anaerobic adhesives that only dries when there is no air present like in between the threads of a bolt. The bottle uses porous LDPE plastic that some air can penetrate on top of the bottle being filled only half ways so that there is ample air inside.
