How long did you let the loctite cure? Henkel-Adhesives states that their threadlockers require at least 24 to 48 hours to properly maintain hold on nuts&bolts

would heating the bolt with a butane torch help to make the nut easier to rotate off w the red loctite or not really? in your opinion..

On loctites website it says heating item to 500 degrees will break down red loctite to untorque it

I don't have a digital torque wrench. Using my digital scale with data hold allowed me to lock in the readings. Thanks for the question. 😎

Not sure what you mean. The length of the lever (nut to rope) was the same for each. There might have been a slight variance due to the angle between the rope and wrench. I did the best I could to keep it as close to 90º as I could. 😎

Not really when the force is being measured. It's almost the same as using a torque wrench from any angle

Do a test with a torque adapter (ACDelco) ▪︎ allow the threadlocker to cure 48 hours. ▪︎ make sure they have a clamping force of 100ft-lbs, use M12x1.75 hex flange bolts that are Class 10.9 and have Class 10 locking flange nuts. Use Red 271(high strength permanent), Blue 242(medium), Green 290 (medium wicking), Orange 21520 (high strength removable Permatex)

Ummm... could you please be a bit more specific? LOL I got a small digital torque adapter and am using it for my current test. Still using the 3/8 x 16 nuts and bolts. I have green and orange on my list of future tests to work on. Thanks! 😎

Skaters. Don't go and put red Loctite in your wheel axels. Blue is what you need.

A bit of an unreliable result there, I am sure the makers of Loctite intend any nut or bolt to be tightened, not just fingered on to a thread and left to dry.. The action of tightening a thread generates friction and heat I am sure this is what is needed to for the Loctite to "cure"! That is, as an engineer the way we use it. After all what's the point of a nut being "fixed" at only part of thread travel?

Thanks for the feedback. Threadlockers cure in the absence of air and with contact with metals (active metal preferred). Heat or friction are not required. Search for "anaerobic adhesive." The breakaway torque, the force needed to break the nut free, was tested. This spec can be found in the technical data sheets. This is not accurate, no way your removing a fastener with red loctite with only 34 ft lbs. I do believe the fact the red loctite is 7x stronger than blue tho

Thanks for the question. In my experience, red can be pretty close to permanent. I stripped Phillip screw heads and twisted bolt heads off of screws/bolts with red Loctite applied. In my test, the nut was not cinched down. It would have been pretty difficult to loosen the nut if it had been cinched down and more than two drops had been applied. 😎

Keep in mind that the only force holding the nut on here is the threadlock. If the nut was threadlocked AND screwed on tight against something, the force required to loosen it would be VERY great.

@@24YOA Thanks. I believe that I mentioned in the video that this torque would need to be added to the torque required to loosen a nut that has been fastened down. Maybe I should do a video of that too. 😎

You should read all the instructions on the tubes before using. It says “if two inactive metals are being used, then a primer is required”. That means zinc coated, like you used, and metals like stainless. Your test results won’t be accurate the way you did it. I’m not trying to be a sh!t here, but if someone really needs that important car bolt to stay in, it’s important to use it properly.
