Nice description of the back gear to bull gear connection. Thank you.

Thanks for this great vid. You did a very nice job getting this lathe tuned up and going well again. The Logan 11x36 is a pretty stout machine with its large spindle ID, long bed and good solid cast components. Your lathe looks to be in very nice shape for how many years it has been around. On a side note, I am currently rebuilding a Logan model 922 11x36 and doing a conversion to under drive cabinet. You are fortunate to have found a 1957 in such fine condition. Superb lathe.

Thank for the videos...very helpful. To dissolve the hardened grease (and old paint) MEK was the go to solvent. In 2012 the EPA outlawed MEK. The "MEK Replacement" sold today doesn't work to dissolve the grease...PTL we can still buy gasoline.

Old-school guys used grease instead of oil because it stayed on the gears and did not drip off. About half the Logans I've seen are missing the pawl that locks the back gear rack in place. Unfortunately, Logan Armature Co. charges $50 for a replacement. Fortunately, a replacement part is easy to make. Don't forget to disengage the direct drive lock pin on the bull gear spindle or your spindle will lock up. Expect very noisy back gears whether they are greased or oiled.
