Give a lot of respect to those that cleared land in the old days with a hand saw and ax...not to mention the stumps.. Maybe burnt them.. and then leveled the land for planting... Good team of mules..

Amazing I guess!!! I come from Oregon for over 88 years, Had loggers in our family, but have never watched them clear land before.. Thank you Al, for this today as I have been watching spell bound and all the safety that has gone with it! To see those giant trees being lifted up and eaten away. Thank you Thank you...I feel I'm getting a few things I've never seen before thanks to you and KZbin. I grew up in Oregon but left in the 80's after everything shut down over that dumb owl thing. Went to Idaho and worked in a plywood plant until the dumb NAFTA passed and they loaded up the plant and took it to Mexico. So I went to Alaska. When my husband was alive we bought 60 acres to retire on. I'm still going to go there. I have 5 acres +/- which I will need to get logged so I can make a house and barn. Watching this has been really fun. Times have really changed. I really like the thing that cuts them and strips off the limbs. That looks a lot safer. Remember when all the log trucks were school bus yellow and they only hauled maybe 3 logs at a time? I've been up here for almost 25 years and I don't think I've seen over a handful of log trucks. They don't seem to have many mills up here. I think they use a lot of the trees for log cabins. I guess I'll find out when I figure out how to go about selling all those trees which is what I'm supposed to be doing now. Always nice to come across another Oregonian even if it's just in a you tube comment section.

I enjoyed watching that video. They sure do make quick work of the clear cutting. The guy cutting the logs knew how to read the trees to get the most money from the tree. You certainly have upgraded the farm and I think you'll be happy that your did the clear cut when it's all done and back to pasture. Oh my, your to do list has grown large again.

Absolutely amazing!! The lumber companies in eastern and Southside VA have clearcut most of the second and third growth forests inthe last 20 years. But then houses were built. 😞 please keep yours in pasture. It will be so nice!

That was so very interesting. My father was a sawmill guy in the 40's and 50's. My goodness how things have changed. I'm so glad I was able to see it. I wish he could have been here but he died in 1969....but on the other hand I guess he knows...Thanks

Awesome. This was so fun to watch. My brother-in-law is a tree trimmer and has been for all so many years but I don't know that they clear out feels like this so this was pretty amazing to watch. That video is great, I was glued to it. First time that I was able see that kind of operation and wondered where and why so many large logs went to the mulch yards. Not enough money in fire wood and is more labor intensive. GREAT VIDEO !

Al, this was a fascinating video to watch for this recent sub to your channel. Decades ago, my ancestors bought wooded property and have logged, harvested,, sold, but replanted for generations. I have never been there nor seen the process, so I enjoyed very much seeing the modern logging process vs what the great great whatevers went through before that technology was available. It's amazing how those guys handles the machines. Cutting, positionings, dragging, stacking, shredding... Also how precise they put the machines on the trailers. I do not understand why they chipped bigger stuff. Most was decent firewood.

Imagine cutting a trail through the US from NYC to California 400 years ago. A trip that can easily be traveled by road in 3 days must have taken years for the first wagons. God Bless the hard working people we had as ancestors back then! I have always been fascinated by log cabins on our forests. At one time the National forest we see scattered throughout the Midwest of the USA I can only imagine used to be how of the Midwest landscape looked before European's landed on it's shores. I live in Southwest Ohio and our forest have become grave yards for the Ash Trees and now our Maple Trees are dying. I am afraid to see this landscape in 30 years, no trees other than the sapling that we continue to plant with hopes they will survive the next bug or Disease.

??? Looked like they also run some good logs through that chipper/grinder "not sure what they are called" But, I would have thought that they would have been used for making lumber meaning the good big and straight logs? I understand using the crocked ones for chips.

Great video Al....All the machines did their part very well...That work crew is great....I like the green machine that cuts and lifts the whole tree it's 'amazing'...The machine feeding the logs to chips also...Never seen anything like these before....Made it all seem so effortless...hard work done fast with mechanization...👍👍🐥👋✌🏼
