Yang Wenli is one of those rare contradictions of of military genius, martial pacifist.... and a realist who stubbornly defends an ideal. ...A true, softhearted fool you can only heartbreakingly call a 'hero' only bc he didn't have a choice.

Strangely as soon as the war in Ukraine started I thought about this scene from the anime, it means a lot...
@r.vincenta.96782 жыл бұрын
Same but I have thought about the anime in its entirety. I even took quotes from Yang and posted them elsewhere. I was also reminded of Avatar the Last Airbender when the conflict occured. The story itself was a rebuke of war and its horrors, and a respectful nod to the surviving and grieving [Leaves from the vine]

Tbh. I think the 3rd season coming out along all this russia-ukraine war made me not watch it anymore. Bad timing i guess. Thinking about it, reinhardt has the talent and will power to stop a 150yr old war but didnt do so when he was calling all the shots as regent. Why didnt he have the humility to offer the olive branch to the alliance anyway? Theres nothing wrong with peaceful coexistence 🤷♀️

It is two sides to same coin “how much value do we put on the concept known as life” and for a lot of folks out there depending on what the situation their dealing with it’s as simple as flipping said metaphorical coin but for others especially those who are dedicated to upholding their personal values and beliefs it’s a bitter pill to swallow to even think of flipping said coin

I'd like to point out that at 0:31 the movement of the stars is physically impossible. the relative movement between the stars and the ship indicates a speed far greater than light, and I don't think they were at warp speed at that time
@SuperBoyboys2 жыл бұрын
The spacecraft could have been pitching down, in which case it was simply a matter of perspective But I don't know if the animators put that much thought into it

I donno, the ship in logh is still pretty fast even without the use of FTL travel, they only seem to jump at a specific jump point for the same reasons why iserlohn and fezzan corridor is so dangerous to navigate. or the animators find it cool but ignored consistency..
@didles123 Жыл бұрын
I don't understand how people who understand special relativity can talk about warp speed or FTL travel seriously. The problem is not how long it takes to travel distances. The problem is that far away things are in each other's past. Time has to pass at the destination before it can catch up to the traveler's present. If you travel close enough to lightspeed, you can travel 100 light years in a day, but there is no loophole to change the fact that the destination will have aged 100 years before you arrive. Most sci-fi gets this wrong, and that's fine when they're blatant about it. It's when they come up with loopholes like FTL that they mess with people's intuition of physics.
@CephlapodninjaАй бұрын
@@didles123I wanted to disagree but I couldn't understand what you were saying. Special relativity as far as I understand doesn't say that far away things happen in the past rather that time flows at diffrent rates compared to one specefic frame of refrance to another when things move at diffrent speeds. Unless you mean light cone business in which case events can't be caused from outside the cone because the speed of information traveling is just the speed of light and vice versa for events inside the cone, But that never implied that those events have to take place in a diffrent now they do but there is no reason for those refrence frames to effect you. Now the creator of LOGH knows this there constant mentions of special relativity in the series Yang even uses it in his tactics, Faster then light travel doesn't exist in the show rather ordinary slower then light speed travel taking place in warped space but if we travel through warped space to reach another destination time won't have to do anything to catch up those who did the traveling they would simply exist in the new now. Beyond this is the questionable stuff like saying you can travel a 100 light years in a day if you travel at light speed which is incorrect firstly because light year literally just means the distance traveled by light in a year it can't travel a 100 light years in a day. If you somehow manage to travel at light speed (impossible) you would experience no time in between because light doesn't move through time at all meaning it (and anything moving at light speed) doesn't experience time at all so that's just wrong regardless of perspective.

I don't like this Yang. Original Yang was deeply humanist. He would never say that humanity as a whole didn't matter to him - but rather, people were always more important than concepts. Totally accurate on the alcoholism though haha
@otakuevolution21312 жыл бұрын
This is directly from the novels, though.
@ilke31922 жыл бұрын
I caught that part too so I went back and rewatched, and I think he doesn't mean it like that. I think when he says "humanity *as a whole* doesn't matter to me" he isn't saying that he doesn't care about humanity, he means what all humans do as a group to solve the problem doesn't matter; he is more interested in what he can do as an individual, as he immediately follows up with "I just wonder if there's anything *I* can do". In most other scenes he's more interested in fixing the whole rather than fixing the smaller parts, because he knows the problem is systematic and not necessarily individual; fixing small parts won't fix the corruption of the republic or signing one single treaty won't stop all wars (hence he's against the idea that "this is a war for peace"). But in this scene he also questions if individual changes can fix the systematic problem, probably due to Reinhard's accomplishments finally settling in. More like idealism vs pragmatism I'd say. In the end though, our favourite magician is always an idealist working with principles to find a truth.
@ComicalConqueror2 жыл бұрын
I don't think he means it in a non-humanist light. It's more on his approach to how he tries to act as an individual and for whom he acts for, which is whoever is around him. When Yang says he wants to make the bloodshed worth it, he does mean ending war, or at least reducing the amount of life lost in it.
honestly, probably one of the least interesting quotes he gives.
