Retrospective record, midi comping, video support and themes are imo the biggest things ableton holds over bitwig, but I feel its a matter of time before Bitwig catches up. Bitwig does most things so much faster I cant stand using ableton for most tasks now

@@Weaverbeats It's very similar, and it's very confiugrable, so you can set it to work just like ableton if you want to (albeit with loads of extra features and workflow improvements). Took a while for them to catch up (just wasn't there on the basics til around version 4.5, despite being forward looking in lots of ways) but now they are racing ahead. The only reason I fire up ableton now is because I like the push 2 integration so much. If I can get the push 2 working as well with bitwig as it does with live, yeah, I'll just sell my ableton license.

It's like RS is trying to make Reason users angry with every new release. Check out what the soon to be released Reason 13 has to offer. RS said Reason 13 has an updated sequencer but those aren't the features that Reason users have been requesting. RS releases a new pathetic version of Reason every year and expects users to pay for it. If you think Ableton is slow then try using Reason for one day and then let me know what you think. Many Reason users who own perpetual licenses are upset because RS implemented a new online license authorization system. Reason users are forced to phone home every time they open Reason which has been very inefficient. Having to authorize your Reason license every time you open Reason means you have to always be connected to the internet. I think the new online license authorization system is very unethical and makes me hate RS even more

Ah, my last reply got invisible'd. 😾 Today I went back to my local Sam Ash (just north of Atlanta), and recorded an audio time capsule on a portable Tascam. They're closing in 9 days. Not much left. I saw a Tascam digital 24-track that looked good… a Denon PA on wheels… a cabinet for rack modules. They spread a bunch of marked-down Samson mics around the store. That seems to be the only inventory that could possibly reach the advertised discount of "up to 70% off." They also pulled a bunch of ancient synth & MIDI cables out of their dusty storage unit. Most of the exciting gear is gone, but the current markdowns still feel like a joke…

Looks pretty good! 🥺 Logic (Student Edition) was the first DAW that I made anything good in, as I'm better with live MIDI than programming. But I boycott any Mac that I have to pay for myself, so I haven't used it in 22 years. I stick with Reaper for emotional (and financial) reasons, but Studio One or Cubase would probably suit me better.

Disagree about Bitwig; it seems like a nightmare of too many cables, and wanky overly complex features for producers who just want to tweak things and don't want to actually finish tracks (yet oddly no individual swing per track). Ableton strikes a nice balance between enough flexibility while keeping things fairly easy to use and streamlined.

Musicians are going to bat an eye at the use of AI. It’s taking all humanity out of music-making. There is little satisfaction in making music that basically you’re actually not making - you’re cobbling together a jigsaw of other people’s performances and AI interpretation. But that’s where humanity is headed. We are doing less and less.

Sampling is making use if other people's performances. _I_ don't do that, but I also don't build my own instruments or understand keys/scales, and I'd rather not 🎛️ mix my own tracks. Doing less is not inherently dehumanizing, *IF* it empowers one to do _more_ of something worthwhile…

Sure all the nes stuff is dope like the EQs compressors, but what people dont see is the workflow, its just a more complete DAW, for example, BOunce a track or group then disable the plugins on group level with one button to turn all plugins. Being able to hide tracks, Being able to "enter" a group and only work on those tracks without seeing the whole arrangement. The new Audio editing is incredible as well. Dude you need to do a ableton bitwig showdown please, oh PS bitwig also has pretty much reaktor 6 built in as well

@@deepsynth3495 Before virtual instruments became powerful, producers would buy workstation keyboards & rack modules & sample libraries to have a unique cutting-edge sound, but eventually the competition acquires the same tools. The modern situation with "Content ID" is a little different, but it causes a similar race to exploit the best sounds before everyone else learns your "secret weapon." 🤔 I've yet to try any of these new-style instruments like Glaze and Arcade. If I can resist the temptation to sound "marketable," they ought to make a good starting point… a sonic broth. 😋
