I’m running out of accolades! It just keeps getting better. There’s no way I, and I think most of us, could find all this on our own. Thank you again, Gianni 🌟

Thank you very much for clear and concise instructions. And no self promoting waffle like a lot of nerds into these sort of tutorials indulge in. Very professional . From Australia - many thanks.

I had been trying to figure out how to use the sequencer for pitched instruments, so this is perfect. I couldn't find it explained elsewhere because everyone using the Logic sequencer seems to focus on making beats. Thanks.

Thanks for showing how useful the step sequencer has become. I was sticking with the old way but I am now encouraged to take advantage of this new work flow.

I just watched this and the video before on drum sequences. Very helpful but I do have one question. Is there a way to change instrumentation if I want to test a different drum kit but my sequencer is already programmed? I see how to change an individual row but not the whole instrument. Really appreciate it!! You’ve gained a subscriber!

wondering same thing, but also could you make your own drum kit by tossing in audio sample of drums?

Hi Josh, Me again. I was wondering if you can “slide” or pitch a continuous note/chord, say for instance as a guitar sliding up the neck or a violin? If so will you have that in any of the up coming videos? Thanks, Gianni

fantastic video josh! From these 2 videos, it seems like the Step Sequencer provides faster workflow than the piano roll editor, and therefore there isn't much use for the piano editor. What situations would you use the step sequencer in, and what situations for the piano roll editor?
@MusicTechHelpGuy
@MusicTechHelpGuy Жыл бұрын
Oh, there are plenty of uses for the Piano Roll editor. I actually use piano roll more than I use step sequencer. Here are a few use cases where I typically go straight to the piano roll: (1) If I record MIDI with my MIDI controller, it automatically creates a MIDI regions, not pattern regions. (2) If I'm recording/programming a MIDI sequence where I want subtle note positions, like notes that are not perfectly quantized to the grid. Things like piano and orchestral instruments, I often will program the sequences with some natural rubato (push and pull in the tempo). (3) Any time I'm working with long chord progressions, or more complex chords that are not 100% diatonic, I'll opt for the piano roll editor instead. (4) Acoustic drum patterns -- I find programming acoustic drum patterns in step sequencer a bit robotic. Although, I might start the pattern in the SS, but then convert to MIDI to add a bit of humanization. (5) Programming continuous controller effects and writing CC automation. You can do it in SS, but it's just not very easy to do. I'm sure I can list more, but those are 5 that come to mind.

Is there a way to manage swing globally or on multiple tracks / across instruments all at once?

I downloaded the project but I'm a little confused. There is something called ScreenFlowDocument.dat, thumbnail.jpg, version.plist and a Media folder with 3 aiff files and 9 files ending iin .scc. Have I done something wrong as I expected a template with the stuff you showed in the video? Thanks.

When I open the files in my version of Logic 10.7.9, my sequencer reads "On/Off" where yours reads "Step On/Off. Why is that? Thanks

I’m not 100% sure I’d call that an 1/8th note drum beat. To me it’s more like a half-time 16th note groove.
@MusicTechHelpGuy
@MusicTechHelpGuy Жыл бұрын
Are they not the same? Two 16ths combined are an 8th note.

I think it’s in my internal counting. “1 e and ah” sounds more appropriate than “1 & 2 &”. Might just be a drummer thing! ;)

WHY did I purchase a Polyend Play? 🤦‍♂️ I think Apple should develop a hardware device for step sequencing
