Thank you. I've just treated myself to Logic Pro as an update from Garageband, which can't drive external synths, and been befuddled by the mnual for a few days. I followed along and am now delighted to be able to see my minilogue xd being played by Logic! You seem like a teacher at the level I need.

Thanks. Interesting! I have a different approach when I use my external synth modules. I create a track in Logic Pro for external synths/modules. Then things go similar to your example, but finally I want to make an audio track of the midi track. So I play back the midi track and at the same time record it as an audio track, because this is important for external sounds finally to have them as audio tracks.
@MattiasHolmgrenАй бұрын
Yes that’s of course what you do to record the incoming audio! 👌😃

This is great. I've been wanting to see if I could use the Arpeggiator on the external midi track.

Very informative. I’ve just ordered a Motu micro express. I’d love to see a video on the possible hookup configurations for that in LPX with a usb powered controller (Panorama T6) and your external module! Thanks.
@MattiasHolmgrenАй бұрын
Oh, just use the same I/O connection points like I showed in the video. Its pretty straightforward. Unfortunately I don’t have a Moto Micro Express.

I had missed this video. Thanks very much Mattias, no problem with external instrument but I'm really looking forward to your video (in your lesson or on youtube) on routing external effects using the I/O plug-in :) I still can't get to grips with routing and I don't really understand it, so I go through everything live, but I'd like to be able to use my effects on a Drummers loop, for example. ☺

This was a great video! Thanks for post. I’ll subscribe for more. Question; Is it possible to re-map an Akai Rhythm-Wolf to do the same thing? What a game changer it’ll be to be able to actually make use of the old drum machine.
@MattiasHolmgrenАй бұрын
Sure the Akai Wolf has Midi / Midi over usb so just hook it up like I did with this Uno Synth Pro X and fire away! 👌🥳

Thanks for the vid! At 3:50 when you recorded, why didn’t it record over the midi? Did you do anything special to record just automation?
@MattiasHolmgren10 ай бұрын
Yes, i activate ”latch” automation recording. You can switch from read to latch with a simple key command. Transport Record does not have to be active. If latch is on, automation will write as soon as you move fader,

I'm tying to hook up a Roland S-1, which has MIDI and audio via USB. Whenever I create an instrument track and I play MIDI notes from within Logic, the notes superimpose themselves and have this infinite sustain which creates a mess. Basically a single MIDI note creates a Hold note on the S-1 device. I haven't figured how to prevent this...any ideas?
@MattiasHolmgrenАй бұрын
Thats probably because the midi IN is enabled for that track by the same instrument. Maybe disable that so you only send midi OUT to the Roland S-1. Or disable midi out in the S-1. Try and see how it works out. You only need midi out from Logic to ”drive” the Roland midi clock / sequencer.
@tendingtropic77789 ай бұрын
Thanks for this Mattias. When I have several external midi instruments, i want to play them all simultaneously and hear them on their respective tracks. however if i play e.g. the prophet, it also plays / triggers the other synths i have (e.g. matriarch). There used to be an auto demix option in logic but I don't see it anymore. do you know how to set this up?
@MattiasHolmgren9 ай бұрын
You need to set different midi channels on each individual hardware synth device. Or else they’re probably setup to respond to ”omni” = all channels.

Hey Great and to the point video. And you sound very Swedish! My girlfriend is from . Im going to play this vid so she can tell me what area you are from . Maybe your from Norway? Any way i love the Scandinavian teaching method and love of music. Some of the best musicans i know and have seen/heard are from the region. I am having a clocking issue. Since i upgraded to osx 14, there is not enough clock send locations are in the send box. I’m not sure if logic is now limiting how many simultaneous clock send can happen but all of the midi connections show in the mid window but not in the clock destinations window if that makes sense. I have about 20 incoming midi and they all appear, but maybe only about, 14 or 15 show for the clock send. That’s how I found your cool channel while searching for this solution to the problem. Just curious if you have seen that issue. If I find the answer, I will send a message here so that everybody can know. I’ll be watching more of your videos too .very very good videos.
@MattiasHolmgren2 ай бұрын
hehe thanks, yes I'm swedish. Clocking issues sounds like a bad one.🥲 I don't have that much midi units hooked up these days but mostly use 1 instrument at a time so it's hard for me to help out debugging your specific issue there. I have not had clocking issues when I did have multiple units connected. I always debug like this, start with the least amount of sources: start with 1 device, add 1 more until you find out what is causing the issue. Hope that helps. Lemme know how it goes and if you find the source of the problem. Welcome aboard my channel, hope you'll like my future content too. 🙏

@@MattiasHolmgren well I'm a trouble shooting kind of guy haha so I just hooked up a MacBook Pro to the S2400 separate from the iMac Pro that I usually use, which has an insane amount of hardware , and.. it works great on the MacBook . so there is an issue I'm trying to hunt down now. I just upgraded to the OSX 14.6.1 from 13 and it's very possible it sucks haha . I have read that the OSX 14 has midi problems. I may have to revert back to the good old stable OSX 13. I'll let you and the fans know how that works.
@InFamousProductions2 ай бұрын
OK I just figured it out. It was the midi extender cable. it was an old one and even though it would carry the audio, it was failing to carry the midi. A lesson to all. USB cables are not all the same and can go bad.

Your Logic Pro looks completely different than mine, I could only find the utility option when creating a new project. It doesn’t pop up when you right click the track.
