If any of you currently have a gaming mouse and are thinking of switching to this. DON'T DO IT. The "darkfield" sensor is VERY inconsistent for precise fine movements. "why would someone need a crazy high-tech scroll wheel." I personally switch between both modes very frequently as I work. It would seem that not having to manually switch between modes would have some benefit for productivity as it saves you the extra click needed to switch between modes. For people who do not know this mouse, having both modes can give you a HUGE increase in productivity. The ability to flick the wheel and have it spin lets you fly down the page of long documents/code or zoom in/out of an image/model VERY fast and then stop exactly where you want to be. The smooth scroll also gives you the ability to have fine-grained control over where you zoom or scroll to, instead of being locked into specific increments (like a certain number of lines or distance) on each "ratchet" scroll. The "ratchet" mode lets you scroll through context menu's or precisely a few lines at a time on a document (like any other mouse would). At the end of the day, as an mx fan all the way back to the original I find this all to be very exciting. Thank you for reviewing and bringing this new version to light ;-)

Just received mine direct from Logitech in Mid grey. I work with AutoCad and this has been a massive improvement over the G203 Prodigy mouse I was using before. Also I was able to get it for $89 using a 10% promo code that popped up through Honey. The stock levels are kind of low on these so it took a couple weeks to ship but it was worth it imo. It came fully charged out of the box ready to go as soon as I turned it on. The scroll wheel is great. Its virtually silent and even the clicks are quite quiet. I still feel like the back/forward buttons could be moved slightly further forward on the mouse. That way you could rock them back and forth without having to move your thumb but that's really nit picking to be honest. I used to experience some wrist and finger strain from long days of working in CAD. Using the MX Master 3 that strain is gone. Really a great mouse and worth the price if you ask me.

Don't buy a MX3. I made the mistake to buy the MX Master 3, and after a few weeks of using it (allready out of the return period, so I remaind with it unfortunatelly), I realize that it was a mistake. Not only the price is huge (109 euro for it, versus MX Master 2S = 73 euro), but the main issue wit it (besides that it DOES NOT have ANY other or better features than MX Master 2S) is simple puted WORKING with it. It's narrower shape does NOT fit in my palm as MX Master 2S (wider) does. Furthermore, the BS "easy scroll wheel" feature which is used by Logitech as a reason for the 36 more euro (40 dollars), is pure BS. MX Master 2S has also 2 modes (as MX3) of the scrol wheel, and in the free scrolling mode, you don't hear ratteling either, except in the beginning (while MX3 is 100% silent), but that doesn't bother me, nor do I think is worth 40 dollars, beside the fact that working (years! Until it breakes) with a mouth which damadges (by intense/prolongued use) your hand (RSI problem) because it just DOES NOT FIT in your palm, is certainly a definite reason why men should buy the MX-2S in sted of MX3. The fact is that you don't see the difference in shape (and how important for you as IT worker is that!) unless you worked with it 2 or more weeks. In the shop, after feeling both models, you incline to believe that MX3 feels better. That changes in a few weeks at home, and you wil be SORRY. PS: The back and foreward buttons on MX-2S were place right there, but meant to be used with the side of your (mid position of it) thumb, NOT with the top of the finger as usual buttons are. That's why some think that the back and foreward buttons are "too far back", and they have to bend their thumb too far back.

Main advantage for me is: - Switch between multiple devices by the press of a button (I can't use their software on my work laptop, but that's the next best thing) - High functionality with buttons and the scroll wheel I intend to use it mostly for productivity and a little bit for casual gaming

So, whoever is thinking something like "hey, that mouse is too big, too heavy" I must say that it's super comfy. :D And I was sceptical about the battery life, but as you said I also maybe charge charge it once every 2-3 months and I use the mouse daily for at least 5 hours, sometimes 15... :D Money well spent.

I use a 2S daily at work, and finally got around to checking out the 3 at Best Buy the other day. The biggest difference between the two has to be the quality of the scroll wheel. I use the scroll wheel heavily for CAD everyday and I've never really had any complaints about it on the 2S, but with the 3 it's just on another level. Firstly it's slightly lighter to press, which does make a difference if you use middle click all the time, and the all-metal construction of the wheel gives it a nice bit of weight and a very premium feel even compared to the 2S. The scroll action is quieter, but more notably the transition between ratchet and free spin is smoother and feels more natural. The overall shape of the 3 is very similar to the 2S, Logitech didn't reinvent the wheel here. However, the 3 feels slightly taller or perhaps has more of a tilted top like the MX Vertical, so I suppose it technically is easier on the wrist. It does feel very similar to hold compared to the 2S, so if you loved/hated the 2S, the new one isn't going to change your mind. The rearranged forward/back buttons and side-scroll wheel on the 3 should be a nice improvement for most people. The buttons are now in a very natural position, but I would say that it has slightly sacrificed the ergonomics of the side-scroll wheel since that has now been moved up and further away from the thumb rest. But if you rarely use the side-scroll I doubt it would bother you. I would consider upgrading to the 3 just for the improved scroll wheel because it is something I use quite a lot as a professional. If I hadn't already bought the 2S and was contemplating between the two, I would definitely go with the 3 even if there's a $30-40 price difference. But despite how nice the 3 is, I haven't really gotten my money's worth from the 2S just yet, so I think I'll stick to what I've got for now and maybe give the 3 another look when it's on sale.

I made the mistake to buy the MX Master 3, and after a few weeks of using it (allready out of the return period, so I remaind with it unfortunatelly), I realize that it was a mistake. Not only the price is huge (109 euro for it, versus MX Master 2S = 73 euro), but the main issue with it (besides that it DOES NOT have ANY other or better features than MX Master 2S) is simple puted: WORKING with it. It's narrower shape does NOT fit in my palm as MX Master 2S (wider) does. Furthermore, the BS "easy scroll wheel" feature which is used by Logitech as a reason for the 36 more euro (40 dollars), is pure BS. MX Master 2S has also 2 modes (as MX3) of the scrol wheel, and in the free scrolling mode, you don't hear ratteling either, except in the beginning (while MX3 is 100% silent), but that deosn't bother me, nor do I think is worth 40 dollars, beside the fact that working (years!

Scroll wheels are probably the most underrated feature on a mouse! Especially for coders and others who have the need to quickly go though a lot of lines. I typically just leave the wheel on free spin and have no issues controlling the scroll wheel. With the master 3 things might be different but I have yet to try it. Can be I buy one as prices have come down a little. A lot of companies really need to wake up. All too often you only get a standard mouse and keyboard. Whlie the keyboard might be discount but fine the mouse really makes a difference. It's just so much less mental efford scrolling with a good scroll wheel than one that screams 1998 - and way faster and more precise too than using the scroll bar. Personally I'm fine with the M720 but at home I might upgrade to the Master 3 in the near future. If only they made silent versions of them. Or perhaps if the switched are standard sized they can be switched out. I once replaced the switches in an M705 (older version) as the original ones were failing and the mouse wasn't worn out. The switches I got from other unused mouses that the company throwed out but switches turned out to be better quality than was originally in the M705. So overall it only cost me some cheap chinese replacement pads to repair the M705. Incidentally I find the chinese pads better than the original ones too. Real teflon in contrast to the original ones.

The explanation about the electromagnets in the scroll wheel is incorrect. There is actually never any contact between the teeth. If that was true you'd end up with grinding and metal shavings coming off the wheel, ultimately leading to permanent free spin. Rather the polarity determines the magnetic circuit. When in ratchet mode the magnetic circuit is passing between both inner and outer wheel, so the user must overcome the magnetic force that is keeping the teeth aligned. This is what creates the ratchet feel. In free spin, the magnetic circuit is contained entirely within the inner wheel, which results in zero magnetic forces between the inner and outer teerh, thus allowing zero resistance to the user which feels like free spin

Well, using a gaming mouse is something different from actually gaming. I like using gaming input peripherals too for work, because they just work better. No rubber dome keyboard can come close to a feel and 'cripness' of writing on a mechanical keyboard with blues - or in case of my workspace, browns; random shittty cheap mice feel super unprecise compared to a good gaming mouse. On my pc at home where I also game, I use a gaming mouse. On all other pcs, laptops etc, I use MX Master mice, because they feel great too. Difference being that the MX Master feels kinda 'off' for gaming, or at least my 2S does.

Not a contradiction. He admits to being a casual gamer. Also it really only matters if you're playing FPS games or something where you'll notice the jittery movements like on a 144hz monitor, because the polling rate on the MX master 3 is lower. It's still a crazy good productivity mouse, and I have one in addition to my gaming mouse. It's definitely a good get when on sale.
