DST Engines TURBOFAN CONCEPT
Here is the whole video of our RC turbofan TF200-1.
We worked on it part-time since 2011. It is a 2-shaft engine, as it is found in the large engines.
PROTOTYPE Informations:
--------------------------------------------------
-200mm Fan
-Fuel consumption = 360ml/min @ TO power (core engine: 123000 U/min)
-130N Thrust @ 292 m above sealevel
-Coreengine: 123000 U/min
-LP system 15000 U/min
-System weight: 5kg (Prototype)
-2 shafts
-2 seperate turbines (1 HPT to drive the compressor and 1 LPT to drive the fan)
⭐ Here are the other videos of the upgrades for the TF200-2.0 version:

I've wondered why most RC Jet motors don't have air bypass or if they do, they're not fan driven (Iike it was just chance in the mounting). Nice job. In full size, I think as much as 60% of thrust is bypass.

@@DSTEngines Why do we hear the turbine spin up on startup while the fan is stationary? The compressor must be linked to the turbine, right? I think this must be dry humor :) I also noticed you had the engine mounted on spring loaded rails. Can you reveal static thrust measurements?

@@frankhage1734 big airliner engines: the fan spools up later top. Because the core engine must build up enough gas pressure to the low pressure turbine. Thats normal.

@233kosta
@233kosta 2 жыл бұрын
@@Taydrum I mean... even if you built it to the exact same standards as a commercial aircraft powerplant, it would never be anywhere near as efficient and that's purely down to compressor and turbine tip-to-case clearances. They _need_ to be a certain size, no matter how big the engine is. That said, engines used in airliners kinda cheat, at least with their turbine casings, where instead of super precise manufacturing, they use abradable seals cut into by the tips of the turbine blades (usually with an abrasive coating of their own). That's as tight as it could ever possibly get.

It *is* that though - but dressed up to look & act like the real thing. This isn’t some multi-compressor set-up - it’s a normal single-stage engine in there. But the moving front blades is a fantastic touch - but they can’t be directly connected - even Rolls Royce would struggle to come up with a blade ‘that big’ & spin at 140,000 RPM. In real plane engines, I think they only get to about 12,000 RPM - surprisingly ‘slow’. There will be some blow-by for sure - but the majority of that thrust that you can literally see, is from the engine nozzle.

As a former Army helicopter turbine engine repairman, I will say... I am impressed. Turbine engines are mostly all the same. But much more complicated than a jet engine. Turbine engines have one shaft for the compressor turbine and one for the power turbine. Two completely separate yet related necessities. Jet engines are so much simpler, they don't deal in torque... just temperature and thrust. Turbine engines are where the efficiency is though, they waste much less of the heat energy.
@DroneMee
@DroneMee 5 жыл бұрын
I assume you mean turbofan engines rather than turbine engines as all jet engines; turbojet, turboshaft(your helicopter), and turboprops are turbine engines as they harness the enegry of expanding gases via one or more turbines. As you stated the complicated portion of this engine is the dual concentric shafts running from a high and subsequent low pressure turbine to the compressor and finally the fan. What an awesome little machine!
@chris1451
@chris1451 5 жыл бұрын
A jet engine IS a turbine engine. I jet engine needs a turbine to drive the compressor. The turbofan, of which this is obviously has two shafts with a power turbine to turn the fan.

@Prototheria
@Prototheria 5 жыл бұрын
FAA Part 103 ultralights are limited to five gallons and the average ultralight can stay aloft for two to three hours. This thing by very rough estimate would burn through that in about an hour. Factoring in start up and taxi out and back from the active, you're probably going to get three or four laps around the pattern before you need to land, so forget about going anywhere. If you want to carry more fuel, it needs to be an experimental aircraft, and you'll need a turbine rating added to your full blown pilots license. Adding a second engine will require the same ratings you'd need for a business jet and at that point, if you have the money to throw at that kind of training, you're not going to be screwing around with an ultralight. Nice idea, but it won't ever happen.

@@bobmustari6087 His point still stands, whether he was around 50 years ago or not. Of course, some might argue that while technology is advancing public opinion/government is regressing, but it's still pretty awesome. While developments like jet engines are out of reach of the average modeler, we can all enjoy the other advancements: 2.4ghz computer radios; electric power systems from sub-ounce to giant scale; cheap gasoline engines; etc.

@@maeflower5108 It's pretty obvious that you weren't in the hobby 50 years ago either. You're both making comparisons to times (probably) before you were born. Even if your conclusions were valid (they're not) you should leave such observations to those qualified to make them. Being an engineer I do appreciate the tech however I miss actually building my own models. Today, anybody with a sufficient bank account can call himself a modeler. It doesn't really matter though because it's just a matter of time until abuses by drone "pilots" will have made this hobby extinct.

@@iamram16mustari67 Not all drone pilots are irresponsible. I fly drones but i have my AMA and i registered with the government. I only fly at sanctioned fields. A few idiots ruin it for everybody. Some people get dwi tickets does that make all drivers bad...No! Ignorant comments like yours are almost as bad as the "idiots" who do dumb stuff with drones.

@@Bluembuna79 Maybe you should read my post before ragging on me. I didn't say anything about "ALL" drone pilots. Like most things in life a small minority has an enormous effect because of the degree of irresponsibility. If you want to be pissed off at someone there's plenty of blame in your own brotherhood. +Ali Al Kayyali Fuel efficiency is really bad at ground level for any form of turbojet or turbofan engine because of the air resistance, they are more efficient where the air is much thinner.
@ha_ha-ha_ha
@ha_ha-ha_ha 5 жыл бұрын
SMGJohn there is no air resistance, the engine is at static conditions; where V=0 i think u meant to say that because the air density is higher so more fuel is required to burn the mass flow of air idk tho, correct me if im wrogg

That would be some rc model. 😏 From the video I estimate the fan diameter to be around 35 cm. Compare that to the 747-8's GEnx engine (2,7m diameter), that would be roughly a 1:8 scale. You're looking at a RC 747-8 of ~9,5m length, ~8,5m wingspan and ~2,5m tailheight. Be sure to post a video of its maiden flight! 😂
