I love that they SHOW how good she is at her job, instead of telling us. I LOVE that she figures it out, and chooses to protect him by keeping her mouth shut. It makes absolute sense that he would defend her with his life because she is so loyal to him, too.
@Thehardtruth693 жыл бұрын
I was about to type out the second part. Part of the reason why Clark is indebted to Lois is that she despite everything she knows about Clark, she doesn't fear him. She still sought him out even after the incident at the Kryptonian scout ship and looks at him like any other person. For someone who's been isolated and invisible his whole life, partially because it's self-imposed, her breaking his isolation and invisibility and choosing to treat him as any other person is endearing.
@hothotheat30003 жыл бұрын
Plus, and I think this is critical, LOIS MET HIS MOM. She knows the stakes. She knows what’ll happen to this woman if she puts her son. Every news outlet on the planet will descend on her. Not only is Lois protecting Clark, she’s protecting Martha, too. She also doing this at the expense of her own career. A scoop like this would earn her a Pulitzer AUTOMATICALLY. That wouldn’t be in question. It’s a sacrifice for her to kill the story, and I think he recognizes that. Even under threat of the military, probably threat of prison time, even after being snatched off the street like a kidnap victim by the government, she doesn’t snitch.

Was it ever said how she figured it out? To my knowledge, she just interviewed people who survived horrible accidents, but they had no idea how they survived, let alone who saved them, if anyone was involved. I'd think Clark would have just moved too fast for anyone to know it was him and where he lived. Still, I do like the movie showing her work ethic and methodical investigation.

Seriously, given how perceptive Lois is, other media always depected her as an idiot for not figuring out who Superman was. Here, in this movie, she pretty much figured it right away (or rather, searched and succeeded in finding his identity). Good job, Man of Steel, for making her smarter than all her other depections.

@HandyMan101 And you have no problem for DECADES to portray Lois as an idiot and the question "How stupid can Lois be?". @CuongNguyen-le5ic6 жыл бұрын
@Jay Shani, that's only a few, but like Jane Foster, she is not smart, but more knowledge and yet Thor is not stupid, but more straight forward and know more than Jane about everything, the universe, the technology and such. Not to mention in all those movies, the men are strong, reliable, the women are more SUPPORTIVE, no matter how "smart" or knowledge they are, they are just behind and support the men. Like Tony Stark and Pepper and countless others movies. These people like Micheal complaint about "Hollywood's effects" which women are more COMPETENT and not theirs look and bad at theirs jobs or just wait for the men to come and save them like old Lois and the fan favorite question for over 6 DECADES "HOW STUPID IS LOIS LANE?"
@CuongNguyen-le5ic6 жыл бұрын
@Jay Shani, TIME CHANGE. If you look at comic over all, more male superheroes, and when all those comic come out? DECADES ago where the concept of Male over Female. Hollywood only did what is right, adjust the ratio between Male and Female from 90% and 10% to now 70% and 30% and more balance approach. Like I said, Thor is not stupid and Jane is not smart, different areas, different understanding. Thor able to speak so many languages, understand things beyond anything Jane could possibly know about universe, aliens, culture and more. Where are yours OUTRAGE? Because once you get to be as strong as Thor, it just brute force will work, it's the lazy approach, not stupid. I also like to repeat TIME CHANGE, so movies, comic, stories must adjust to time to fit the audience. Like the story of Adam and Eve, Eve came from RIB of Adam, Eve is dumb, listen to a snake, Eve is the one to blame. See that story of Adam and Eve, written in the time of where Male has SUPERIORITY over Female, if Eve shows any signs that would go against the acceptance culture's views at the time, you think people would be more supportive to that story? Same with China and female officials, same freaking problem. The comic is not perfect, it needs to be adjust to time and audience or risk FAILURE at new society.
@CuongNguyen-le5ic6 жыл бұрын
@Jay Shani, Again and again it's TIME CHANGE. Hollywood must adapt or RISK OF FAILURE. If you look at Business, Amazon came out with online shopping, all the building and brick stores all closes up. Online Movies came out, same problem, Block Buster gone. Steam came out, Game Stop and such all barely hang on. No matter how you hate it, the audience, the society and the perspectives all changed with time. Even religions change their mantra and preaching method. 50 years ago, Catholic and Christians still have theirs mantra of Deformed babies as "SPAWN OF DEVIL", now suddenly they are all about protecting fetus. Religions change, nobody make a BEEP. Hollywood changes, people react because so many couldn't accept that changes, simple as that. Like all stories, comic requires their stories to change, not stay the same as DECADES ago which make no sense and risk alienate most today's audiences.

"The only way to disappear completely is to stop helping people altogether, and I sense that's not an option for you." She got that right. One of the comics get into that in rather gory detail. I mean, because of your super hearing, you constantly hear people screaming for help. And if you let yourself loose for a bit, people will have to redraw the map, assuming the humanity isn't wiped out. Taking over the world? That's COMPLETELY beneath Superman. I mean, what's the point of taking over a world made of cardboard? Even Lex had a moment in All-Star Superman where he got a fragment of Superman's powers, and boom, the first thing he saw was that everything was connected, and realizing how he can help to better the world. Taking over the world or doing something selfish didn't even come across his mind, simply because those things are completely beneath to someone with Superman's powers. Well, at least to a sane person (Zod is not so sane).

Massive props to Joseph Cranford and Jack Foley, who played old and young Pete Ross respectively. Even though Pete has just two lines of dialogue in the entire film, he basically carries what I call the "Smallville Conspiracy" - the way Clark's secret is protected during his childhood - with his facial expressions the entire film. First in the bus rescue scene when Clark rescues him, then in the Kent home scene with Pete's mother where he's visibly scared, then in the bullying scene where he shows his respect for Clark for the first time, then in the Ihop when Lois approaches him. The look on his face when Lois finds him speaks volumes about the secret he's had to keep since his childhood: "oh dear, I've been found out".

***** Agreed. Yet from the standpoint of presenting a workable notion that alternates from 80 years of card tricks and hocus pocus, that a more natural human equation works for these two characters. Even DC thought the old premise was 'aged out' and progressed Clark and Lois unto something a bit more mature, though with better writing potential for readers. And then reverted back to non-progression after willing in a new group of creators to further *"The New 52,"* sadly. But as a movie contingent, that Zack wanted to go with this. In every instance, Lois is always older. The grim reality of being Superman though is that even if she were much younger, she would die and he would live for hundreds if not thousands of more years. Kryptonians age very slowly on Earth. They will eventually die of old age but live many times longer than a normal human. Wonder Woman would be his ideal mate. I do think this movie was massively underrated. But I also think it didn't quite know what story it wanted to tell. The Smallville portion of the movie culminating in Louis finding Clark was absolutely brilliant. First they show you Clark's life, how he struggled with finding his place in the world - with people who didn't seem to appreciate him. Then they rewind with Louis meeting all the people who Clark helped along the way, sharing their stories with her. But then the movie turns into nonstop action scenes, which though good, are such a jarring tone shift from the low key, touching first half of the movie.

Looking back, I've always thought they should have made MoS exactly like the tone and story of the first half of this movie here. Superman finding out who he truly is, maybe have the villain be human instead, or like superhuman(s). Shouldnt be a world ending threat, but at least like a city level threat and helps to introduce Metropolis/the world Superman. The villains being human shows that humanity is not as good as Clark hopes it to be, but thats why he is here. To spread the hope that he believes in to the people of Earth, to help people, even if they are undeserving of help. Then MoS 2 is the second half with Zodd. This movie challenges Clarks principles, now having to go up against his own kind. Maybe before this event, people didnt realize he's alien, maybe some guy with powers from somewhere or a "meta human", then Zodds arrival breaks that convention. And now, with the almost destruction of Earth AND Clark having to kill someone, his own kind no less, the status quo has completely changed. Now, the public that once respected and looked up to him, now fear him, his powers, and trouble that could come his way (and a great way to transition to BvS)

Never realized Ma Kent worked at Sears. Snyder going for that verisimilitude in BvS by having her work at a diner, considering Sears is closing down stores left and right in real life. Plus the Smallville Sears probably got blown up in MoS anyway.

Unpopular opinion, but they did Lois discovering Clark’s Identity much better than in my adventures with superman. she’s not chiding him about lying to her, she’s not jumping off a building to prove a point. she’s just a really good journalist doing what she does best.

Jonathan Myska: To each his own. I think the Wonder Woman movie was equal or better to The Man of Steel. But of course, that is strictly based on our respective opinions and I do not wish to invalidate your view. Given the number of actors who have played Kal El, Henry Cavill was upper tier, but Chris Reeve was closer to the ideal (IMHO). And Gal Gadot (in your comparison movie) took the role to make it her own. She is a worthy successor to Linda Carter. No other actress ever has been.

I always pictured Lois as being a little older and more experienced than Superman. This has been the case in some past incarnations of the lore. Margot Kidder was older than Christopher Reeve by about three or four years. Terri Hatcher was older than Dean Cain by two or three years. I didn`t mind Amy Adams being nine years older than Henry Cavill. For starters, in Man Of Steel, despite being in her late thirties at the time, Adams could have passed for early-mid thirties and they`re both adults. If Lois were real, it makes sense that she would be around the same age-range as someone like Adams. But I always thought that Anna Kendrick or prior to acting in Marvel`s Doctor Strange, Rachel McAdams, would have made as equally a good Lois Lane as Adams
