There are internal brakes on the reel as well. Also loosen your spool tension up a bit to maximize casting distance. That reel is nice, I have 2 but just bought the 2020 model and it’s sick.

Correct me if im wrong but I think the brakes aren't like traditional brakes. I have the Slx dc and the 'Brakes" are for the line being used. 1)braid , 2) mono , 3) floro , 4) windy is what the manual says Great Video BTW!

Loved the video my suggestion for next peirce challange is you and him make some homemade bass lures and you fish with them! He can pick the colors and whatnot and you and him will have a blast making them trust me. It can be anything from making jigs, to spinner baits, or even soft plastics, all are really fun and there's nothing like catching a bass on a lure you made :)

He low key picked a great combo, the E6X is a fantastic rod and the metanium mgl is a great reel. No one makes better rods than G. Loomis or better reels than Shimano

Well, one thing pricey about that reel alone, is the frame is magnesium. That's why it's so light,plus the spool is probably 12-13 grams. I hear you when it comes to really pricey reels though. I typically try to get cheaper ones that will work for what I like to do with em, but recently I dropped 4 1/2 billls on a Shimano Calcutta conquest BFS reel, and I don't regret it lol. It's one sexy badass reel, and comes with a really light shallow 8 gram spool. I can cast a 1/64 oz trout magnet with it! It's butter smooth too.

i know that feeling when you talk about too thin rods. I recently bought DAM cultus rod along with shimano slx casting reel (low budget version). turned out both the reel and the rod feel waaay to small for me. 30 mins into 4h fishing session and my fingers started to hurt. Plus i learned that when i use regular reel i need left handed version...but for casting reel i need a right handed one.

That Metanium MGL is my favorite reel and I got a bunch. You'll love it. Perfect rod too. Braid would have been a nice choice. Good to see you casting well with it. Hoping for a fish. Yep, maybe something smaller in your hand is what you needed, just sayin. That combo is casting like a demon.

The E6X is one of my favorite rods have to look at the letter on the side and see what technique rod you have plus they do have different handles for them the 7'5 flipping and punch rod FPR is awesome, i have 3 total but 2 are 7'1 jig and worm rods JWR not sure which they sell on Amazon the price is usually 199.00 for the rods also

You didn't really adjust the brakes...Shimano uses centrifugal brakes on their reels, the dial you were turning is a fine tuner, but you gotta take the sideplate off and engage/disengage the pins inside. The pin setting it comes with default works for most applications but if you wanted to skip or something else you would need to adjust differently.

Used to have one of those. They do have the split handle version. Good onshore red fish rod as well as well as bass. Though mine was spinning version with a Stratic 4000 for a reel.
