That's kind of annoying when people get so onto flute players about that. It's not really significant. It's not really natural to hold your right arm up that high, and there's no harm in tipping the head a little to the side. Pretty much everybody that I played with in college held the flute down a fair bit.
@vomitdev6 жыл бұрын

😂 I don’t see how band is hard to get a good grade in. I’ve had a 100 average for all three years no problem. Because it wasn’t about how good you were. It was about doing your best so pretty much it was about practicing, playing during rehearsals, and attending concerts.
@jessicamaclean870610 жыл бұрын
Actually his flute angle is a natural flute angle. It's bad for your shoulders and back to hold it up completely parallel to the ground, and you get a tighter sound. If you hold it in a more relaxed position, your sound will sound more relaxed and your body won't be as tense. Marching band always makes people think that the flute has to be parallel to the ground, and in marching band it does, but for anything else it shouldn't be. It's like stopping notes with your tongue, good for marching band, but bad technique :)
@sapphiresky58246 жыл бұрын
Jessica MacLean yes i get yelled at in marching band so much because i never have my flute parallel
@syd98506 жыл бұрын
Your shoulders only hurt in the beginning of holding the flute parallel. You get used to it. And the whole tilting thing was more based on the problem of the flute tilting, but not your head too, which is a bad embouchure. And it’s also because it’s easier to move around on the field when your head isn’t sideways.
@jondishmonmusicandstuff27536 жыл бұрын
Angle smangle. Differrent flute players play different angles. There is no right angel for a flute player. That's an urban legend.

@@corbeaudejugement In the UK the term flautist is a valid word to describe one who plays the flute. James would back me up being from neighbouring Ireland. It’s not a term used in the USA and I agree it’s not technically a logical word as one doesn’t play the flaut. Flute player or flutist perhaps would have in hindsight been a better international choice. I will certainly bear that in mind for the future. Many thanks.

It depends on what kind of thing you are doing. In marching band, it’s all about straight lines, you keep your posture straight, as well as keeping your flute parallel to the ground. In concert band, you should have a slight dip in your flute, but not too much. If you point your flute down too far, your posture will suffer. It’s the same with classical flute!

@nicholasliu57886 жыл бұрын
Also, it's only a minute. He only needs to circular breathe once to be fine. Alternatively, it's not exactly impossible to hold your breath for a minute; I've done it before on saxophone and if I could, I'm sure he can.
@Dvishnu616 жыл бұрын
Air resistance on saxophone is much greater than flute. That would make playing longer phrases without a breath on flute more difficult and problematic unless the stream of air was slowed considerably. There's enough space to take a conventional breath in some spots. Still very difficult though. James Galway is a master.

Between 0:10 and 0:11 you can see his shoulders going up, a sign for breathing, also when he playeed those notes where you have to roll in your throat, after them, there are small breaks where you can breathe, too, what he did. Also around 0:51 and everyone you can see his shoulders going up he probably breathes, too. But I have to admit, it's amazing, how good he can play and hold his breath.

I’m stoned this is the first time I heard flute music that instantly went through my soul it felt amazing and I’m loving this a whole part of the work I some how missed all these years wow It is like they are telling a story through communication but not wi tv words merely sounds and it’s just a whole different very positive thing I’m in love with this - it also seems to be good for anxiety wow

I play the flute, and like, REALLY! My only reason to watch this is cuz I wanted to see how fast the fingers needed to go, and I was like completely SHELL-SHOCKED I AM LIKE NEVER EVER GONNA LEARN TO PLAY THIS- too freaking fast!
@rosaelizabeth19389 жыл бұрын
You should look up Emma Remini's playing of this, I think that would be a more appropriate speed XD

AnimalXpress Peng Having your fingers close to the pads helps a lot in speed and also knowing your scales in every shape way or form.

Wolf_Core It. might just be your embouchure. I had to learn to relax my lips in higher octaves that I was overachieving for; otherwise, my mouth would be exhausted after 30 minutes. Most of it is just from getting tight in the lips. I had the problem, and even on piccolo. It shouldn't hurt or something must be wrong 😂

I was 69 when I started theflute. Four years I was in a concert band. Got lost many times on the music sheets, but slowly caught on. Got some instructions, and mostly on my own

Now I am 86 and still play privately. Too far to drive to band practice now. Enjoy the challenge of playing new stuff. Instructors prefer younger students.
