Unless it’s on a video where someone is coming out or telling a very personal story or something, in which case it may be because they do not feel ready to have people critique or talk about it as they are still sensitive to the topic, which is understandable, but in other cases, yes definitely haha

wow, seeing that 2010-era hair and makeup was TRULY wild and reminded me that learning about lolita/visual kei/j-fashion from a friend back then is what kickstarted me into wearing (winces) scene fashion........... so much of my inspiration back in 08/09/10 was drawn from deco styles. i'd wear jewels on my face to school 4 days out of 5, bright makeup, glitter everywhere, giant hair, the whole nine yards. and thinking back, there really was a lot about scene fashion that was like a weird lovechild between western emo/goth/etc and elements of j-fashion - everyone wore hello kitty everything, lmao, but specifically i feel like there was a lot of overlap with vis kei and deco elements (but maybe that was just me - i'm from socal too and i feel like lots of different fashions get a lot of visibility here). anyways, this was a really cool time capsule-esque video, and it was nice to see another positive documentary! also, the secret to jewels on your face is eyelash glue, and applying them after foundation but before powder :B

You know, I'm pretty sure they called it Lolicon because they were making a documentary about lolitas at a con. So they thought it was clever to make it that double meaning. Honestly, this documentary was fine. You can tell it wasn't professionally done, but they didn't try baiting the lolitas into saying they were living dolls or anything to that effect. If only they didn't go for that "clever" joke in the title, I think they wouldn't have had to disable comments and this would have been only seen in a positive way. D:
@Keirabug6 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing! I can see that they probably did mean “lolicon” as in “Lolita convention” but with a jokingly clever double meaning. I can also see how it’s disturbing to imagine anyone outside of the Lolita community seeing that title and not getting the cleverness and thinking something else. Either way, the documentary itself was so nostalgic~
@felinedreamer16856 жыл бұрын
Like I think the issue was that when people complained about the joke they probably just said "lolol its a joke" instead of maybe explaining what they meant. Maybe putting it as a pined comment (was that even a thing when the vid was posted?) or in the description.

I know a girl who went on in lolita and it really rubbed me the wrong way I would not consider her a lolita, I think she has like 2 dresses but she hasn't worn a co-ord since that time from what I remember and I vaguely remember her selling one of her dresses..? She basically went on to be in a "weird" fashion to be "fixed" and even if it was just some fun to her I felt like it was unfair on anyone who likes that fashion Say someone new to lolita saw that and immediately felt like a weirdo that needed to be fixed? That's just not cool :/

I think its perfectly okay to talk about when you were a child and how Lolita fashion takes you back because the word "Lolita" is basically taken for being this childish cute girl. Ive got no idea how the victorian inspired fashion got that name. I think it belongs more in the nymphet fashion world
@leadandelion51272 жыл бұрын
Because "Lolita" is old Spanish nickname for "pearl of the court" i.e. the most beautiful girl (like Italian Bella) and Nabokov who wrote Lolita the book used it intentionaly as he was huge language nerd and the book till this day remains one of the most layered and complicated language masterpiece ever written. The Japanese newspaper journalist in interview said they used the name as first person ever because lolitas were those beautiful girls like from the old times. You need to realize that original lolita fashion evolved with huge influence of American countryside idealized fashion, there was hugely popular TV series about life on farm with big family, that is also why so many early dresses were checkered "picnic" cloth. This show had huge impact on fashions in Europe and Japan both. As for the victorian element, the second big influence to early lolita is gothic style and Alice in Wonderland, plus court dresses from Europe around victorian times.
