I was thinking the same thing. We used to have flash mobs where people would come together to do something fun and wonderful. Now we have a crazy virus, shut downs and lock downs, people losing their jobs, their businesses and their minds, protests, riots and lootings and the destruction of statues and cities. How did we get here and how do we get back to a more peaceful and more joyful society??? It's just sad!

Yup, I'm thinking about finally joining that Irish dance class my uni offers. I wanted to join earlier this year, but they only offer advanced classes during the breaks and before I could join for the semester, Corona hit and ruined all of my plans of finally finding a hobby I like.

Hmm you're right about that one Jez, they must have linked the wrong video to the article I was reading. I did think it was a rather odd looking airport! When I got your reply I checked it out, and there is another video for the Irish flash mob at the Shannon airport, and I saw the people actually happier at the airport than at the mall!

Seeing young people like this with such a passion, which requires so much hard work, so much training. We’re not used to that here. in 1969 I accompanied my Irish mother to Toronto to see her sister and mother, who had emigrated there after the war, for the last time, my mum was 49 and dying of cancer. we all went for a night out to an Irish bar in a large hotel complex, some Irish tune came on that my mam and aunt had learned to dance to in school. My mam, sister and her 68 year old mother got up and danced before the music finished there were about a dozen old Irish ladies dancing like these young girls. I was 19 and a bit of a bad lad at the time, but it brought me to tears I have loved Irish dancing ever since, having been born in England I feel it connects me to my Irish roots.

I’m American and I’ll go out on a limb and try to answer a common question here. The reason, many people aren’t smiling at first is because they’re in awe. If this happened in an airport here, most of us would do the exact same. The level of practice that it takes to be able to this is unbelievable. Americans would probably do what everyone here did and enjoy the performance...and then give them a massive applause when they finish. Great job! 🙏🏻😇

@@TampaJohn No, not trolling at all. I simply don't understand ANY national pride. It's not like you DID anything to merit personal pride any more than I've done anything to merit pride in Britain. The fact that a bunch of talented young people can perform an Irish dance in a mall hardly seems like reason enough, especially as you don't even LIVE in Ireland if your name is anything to go by. But no problem. If this makes you feel a sense nationalistic pride, feel free.
@TampaJohn
@TampaJohn 3 жыл бұрын
@@Martial-Mat The great thing is that you don’t need to understand. It’s not about you. And it’s not about what I did, it’s a pride that builds when I see Irish people do good things. I still have many relatives over there. More than I ever knew and that pride inside of me is very strong. I’m going to take you at your word that you’re not trolling. That being said, that’s why I have pride in my heritage.
@Martial-Mat

@@TampaJohn I realise it's not about me, but when you make a post like that in a public forum, you invite comment. I descended from people in Wales, Italy, and I have a touch of native American blood. I feel zero connection to any of them, far less pride. I recently discovered I have close family in Texas - with one exception, I not only don't feel close, I actively dislike them. So it always interests me when I hear people express nationalistic pride. It especially interests when I hear Americans express pride for a country they've never lived in even though they could, particularly Ireland or Scotland - nations most of them are many generations removed from. o you feel a greater affinity for Ireland than America? Do you look at Ireland as the "home country?" Or is perhaps the novelty of heritage that goes back further than a few hundred years? I can certainly understand historical fascination. I am surrounded by castles and ancient buildings.
