Congrats. The black dial looks nice. And funny coincidence, I travelled 335 km yesterday to northern Holland to buy a unique vintage Omega 145.012-67, caliber 321. Chatted for about 2 hrs with the vintage watch dealer after weeks of negotiations. Very nice experience when going to pick up a grail. Enjoy the Rollie. First day with my 321 here 😃😃

I agree on the black dial on the 116520 reference. I also have the black dial and I wanted to buy one since I was 16 and had to wait over 10 years before I could afford mine, and the feeling of picking it up was one of the best feelings I've ever had. Also the fact that you opted out from picking up the black ceramic one is just amazing. Such a good guy, think not many people would have done the same.

Abbbsolutely beautiful Daytona, sir! I only have one watch: a gold Daytona on a leather strap. And much consideration, I loved that Rolex celebrated the new millennium with a Daytona, and that it was the first six-digit, AND that it was the first with a bespoke movement: but I also want the first serial number of production. So I set my heart on a P-serial. Bought it. On my wrist now. Only watch I'll ever need.

I didn't realise the design of the dial on the black version didn't change from pre-ceramic to ceramic. It's a nice thought that you could swap the bezels and make a "ceramic model" out of it.

I had the exact same 'thin hands' model with black dial it is the perfect size and fits the wrist so comfortably. I also think it is much nicer than the white dial version. The only problem I had with the watch was that, although I have good eyesight, I found it practically impossible to read the time in most lighting conditions so I eventually part-exchanged it for the blue 'Smurf' Submariner. It's probably the reason Rolex decided to upgrade to wider hands and even offer to change them when these watches went in for servicing. The funny thing with all things Rolex is that this version has become even more collectable! It is a lovely watch though.......Congratulations on finding such a pristine example.

Great job on this video the Daytona Rolex Watch it’s totally different from the other Rolex way he’s that I have seen personally. But the Daytona Rolex there are so many buttons to deal with I would probably get lost pushing any of the buttons. It’s Beautiful though I really love the way it looks. I really love the Rolex vintage ones myself I have a friend of mine that has the r6694 1973 and it’s really nice looking and quite simple to operate but it’s smaller I think it’s a 26mm the band but it does look really nice especially on my wrist my friend allowed me to wear it just to get the feel of a Rolex and quite frankly it feels great on my wrist so I personally felt wonderful having a Rolex on my left wrist. When I have the money I will personally purchase one myself. But what type of Rolex watch that I do not know just yet before I pull that trigger I will think about what type of Rolex watch to purchase first there are so many to choose from.

Correct it’s a mk1 dial. However when you say it has thin hands compared to your 116500, you would have been better saying it has thin hands as compared to fatter hands that came out with the mk2 dial from F series mid 2003.

The unpainted bezel is always the way to go on non ceramic watches. I own a vintage Sub and Seamaster, both with painted bezels and both badly scratched. Never subscribed to the idea that scratches add character. I want my watches to look mint for as long as possible, not be covered in scratches. You don't have the problem with unpainted bezels with inscribed markers , as is demonstrated on this beautiful piece. Scratches still there of course, but just not as prevalent on a unpainted bezels

You must have a special relationship with your jeweller if you have been offered a second ceramic Daytona , the jewellers I use in Stoke-on-Trent tell me they only have two a year allocated and they have 60 people on the list that’s a 30 year waiting list 😩

Vintage or modern Daytona? For vintage, the best ones in my opinion are the 6263/6265 manual wind, 37mm case, steel "Big Red" (so named for the Daytona name is written in a large font size). Screw-down pushers, big crowns (Triplock). Movement is a Rolex emblemlished Valjoux 72, renamed a Rolex caliber 727. Earlier versions from the 1970s had "light", folded links Oyster bracelets; later versions from the 1980s had modern Oyster bracelets. The earlier 6239 "pump" pushers (non-screw-down) Daytonas and their variants are not water, pressure-proof, but offer the simplicity of the non-screw-down crowns and a simpler Twinlock winding crown. The bracelets on the pumper Daytonas are either rivoted links or folded links Oyster bracelets and due to their simple and flimsy construction few orignal watches of this era survive with their original factory bracelets. Sometimes you might come across a Daytona of the pre-1970s era with a Jubilee bracelet, but that's fairly rare. Both the pumper pusher and the 6263/6265 Daytonas were offered in the "exotic" Paul Newman dial variations; today, these are enormously expensive watches. The 6263/6265 were also offered in yellow gold variations--these are very rare, difficult to find pieces today. Interestingly, the gold 6263/6265 models were certified chronometers as marked on the dials; the steel variations were equally accurate, but Rolex did not spend the extra money to have the less expensive models so certified. For modern Daytonas, the 116520 that LWC has selected is a nearly perfect Daytona to own for daily wear: excellent, super accurate Rolex 4130 movement, modern bracelet with easy adjustment capabilities. Only thing to decide is whether you like the thin hands version like LWC's watch or the later fat hands version and the most updated bracelet. The latest ceramic Daytonas have a few movement parts tweeks, but they don't make the watch significantly better than the pre-ceramic Daytonas. The only platinum metal Daytona is found in Ref. 116506 with brown ceramic bezel and ice blue dial with/without diamond markers. There are yellow gold and white gold variations available on rubber straps also. You can also go slightly earlier with the 1988-c. 2001 Zenith El Primero-based 4030 movement Daytonas. There are several dial variations and three bracelet variations with these models. The movements are rock solid and super accurate automatic winding movements. The steel models are the most sought after followed by the all gold on bracelets models. The two-tone and the gold models are straps had been soft in the market, but are coming up because of the collector interest in Zenith movement Daytonas. My favorite Daytonas are the black dial, steel Zenith movement 16520 Daytona and 6265 in steel with "Big Red" black dial. I love the Paul Newman Daytonas, but that ship sailed away from me before I started collecting watches 25 years ago, i.e. they were fairly expensive then. I am going to call my local AD tomorrow if I can and see what he recommends.
