I’ve had a soft spot for the Flower of Scotland ever since a Calcutta Cup match at Twickenham many years ago. Hearing tens of thousands of Scots belting it out was truly awe-inspiring as it reverberated around the stadium, it brings tears to my eyes remembering that special day, with supporters from both teams all mixed together, laughing, joking, taking the piss out of each other and singing during the match and later in the bars beneath the stadium. Both are so much better than our dreadful dirge, God Save the King.🥱

It really is out there on its own out of every nation on Earth. Even today, despite our tiny size, we are 5/6th in economic terms, one of the G7, a nuclear power, and a huge force in economics, politics, and science. Some people rightfully point to our empire as a negative note in our history, but we left countries better than they were when we got there, and left them systems of governance and law.
