Great video. Watched both. This is a great example of a cold weather long range setup. Love it. As for one item. Must agree on firemaking tool. You can make blades. You can make shelter. You can stuff your clothes with various vegetation to make insulation for warmth on body. You can hunt, fish and clean with the blade u make. It is that FAST reliable fire making tool that will make EVERYTHING else much easier. As well make you comfortable and boost morale. Cook food. You can't go wrong there. Again. Great video buddy!!!

Knife. One of the most versatile tools ever invented. Sure, you can make one from rocks or glass, but a steel knife is way more durable. A knife is protection, tool making, fire starting, food prep, shelter building all rolled into one tool.

Very interesting Jeremy .. one item For the I have got to go now .. I must say that is thought provoking.. my answer would be my leatherman wave multitool as it is on my belt daily .. no on e said wether or not you’d be in the bush or in a city ,, so either location the tools available along with the skills I possess would be a premium asset to me .. in town I could open commercial water spigots to access water ,, cut phone and computer cabling for cordage ,, fashion pots etc out of soda cans , remove screws to access other items that could be useful .. of course as quick as I could safely make my way to the woods with my collected along the way improvised kit that would be my choice location ,, I know several ways of building traps , archery equipment , fishing equipment , .as always a good level head with a mind full of knowlege and experience is always your most valuable asset in any situation ,, So the multitool is my next most valuable asset..

Very interesting question and lots of great answers from folks. I agree with the poster that mentioned knowledge and determination. As a very old scouter who lives in an area where bugging out might be necessary and knows the value of the motto " be prepared" I have a truck and camper ready to roll at any time. I also have an emergency backpack that will keep me going for several days that I keep in the car. I also have a fanny pack that will sustain me overnight if I run into problems out hiking and walking dogs and a survival walking stick. I normally carry a folding pocket knife, bic lighter, mini flashlight and Chapstick in my pockets along with a roll of poop bags if the dogs are with me. As a woman I also carry a purse, God only knows how long I could survive on what's in there . But if the world exploded under my feet and you came along and told me I had 30 seconds to grab one thing and bug out -- I would grab your hand and say lets go!

Keep the videos coming and keep doing instruction. In answer to your question here's my take. Multi tool fits every need for me in the bush. For me it’s a tool chest that that fits in my pocket. No matter where you are in the bush, the multi tool will fill the bill whether carving out a bow drill for fire (a necessity) or cutting poles to assist in making a bush primitive shelter to carving out a bowl for water. Can be used to make traps to catch animals for protein, can gut and clean fish too. Bottom line it can be used to carve any and all needed items .I can’t say much more than the multi tool in my opinion is my choice if stranded and only can take only on item

Personally, I would grab a box of heavy duty garbage bags. Many uses. Shelter, water container, you can even boil water in a plastic bag if you are careful about it. You can rip them into strips to use for cordage. many other uses. Here in Texas a hot tent isn't needed most of the time, cooling one off though, that would be invaluable!!

great video with lots of ideas! I just bought the tent and stove!. cant wait to use it! I make bees wax wraps, so you can also grate the wax (even candle wax) on a grater or hand crank food grinder, sprinkle it evenly on but not heavy, lay uncoated wax paper over it and iron it. Works great, quickly, and you can see immediately if and where you missed any wax. I'll probably make my ground sheet at home this way.

Well let me think about that for a sec, I would prob grab my Holtzman survival knife combo. Where it has the fire steel and striker and a knife. The steel for fire craft, and the many uses for the knife, from processing wood for fire or shelter, or make some lashing somehow and make it into a spear for hunting or fishing. So many options for a knife/steel combo.

I agree. Fire started it all. With fire you can build darn near everything and all the other stuff can be make. I would choose a pot and knife secondly, because with these three things anything and everything becomes possible more quickly. Speaking of more quickly, cordage would be added. These four things are long and tedious to make and use. Well when it comes down to it, 10 things are about all you need to make other things. Tool heavy and a warm blanket. Try making a blanket in the bush. lol.

Next time you speak to Pomoly, suggest to them to change the snow skirt material on their canvas shelters the 300D oxford cloth that is used on their regular tents. It's should help with the drying out process as well as with mildew and mould from being damp. It should also help with breaking it out from frozen snow and ice in the winter.
@Lonewolfwildcamping
@Lonewolfwildcamping 3 жыл бұрын
To be honest, having owned and used both versions if this particular tent and as well as many other pomoly tents both in 300d and canvas I must say they both dry out very quickly. The canvas is treated to be water proof and absorbs not water and is not like the canvas that military or surplus finds consist of .

one item only? that is so hard. But I generally have a small folding knife with me at all times, so I guess I'd go with your idea as fire is essential for warmth, making water potable and for cooking food. on a different topic; if you didn't have grommets with you, make an eyelet for your drawstring using buttonhole stitch (very close together blanket stitches). Each stitch goes into the first hole made and it enlarges as you add sitiches. Put knots in each end of the drawstring that are larger than the eyelet and close the bag with a shoelace bow.

I’d take your signature Pomoly Lonewolf 902 x Timber Wolf Limited hot tent stove as my single item. With a stove I could keep any shelter I build warm through the night. Excellent video really enjoyed it, so fire steel is great and would be at my top, along with a knife, but I would certainly grab a roll of thin gauged brass wire. I can use rocks for a knife and broad heads, bow or hand drill fire, I can make traps primitive, but I can work a snare far easier on any species more efficient than any other primitive trap. The traps work while you rest and food is fuel, it’s survival! I would grab that. Thanks for reading

Great video, that was an awesome job you did on the canvas! You know, I thought the same thing you did, fire steel, and I was going to change my answer, but I really can't. I can build a lean to, or even an A-frame shelter that's weather proof all day, but getting that fire going to keep me warm, clean my water and cook food is imperative. A fire would help me see at night, keep predators away and even boost morale, and I really wouldn't want to expend the energy of using a bow-drill, I feel that would be counterproductive. Thanks for the video! Stay safe out there and God bless!

Great video Lonewolf. I like the bag you made for carrying things like your kettle and stuff. If I had to choose one item to grab to carry with me, I would have to say fire steel too. My reason behind it being I don't know how good I would be at making a bow drill or other kind of fire making device. You can find all kinds of items out there to use for cutting like a piece of glass or sharp metal if you had to. Also you could use any number or things you might find for carrying and boiling water in such as a can, bottle or even the stomach of a dead animal.

Bow. Can make arrows and arrow heads out of so many things ie rocks, sticks, metal cans etc. Would provide means of protection for family, food procurement and its relatively quiet so no unwanted attention a gun would draw. Easy maintenance/replacement. Bow string from shoelace, cords, rubber bands if scavenging. Nearly unlimited ammunition if you look hard enough and are creative. Can be used as a fire starter depending on material used IE metal arrowhead or use bow and separate sticks as friction bow fire starter so can be considered a multi-tool. Can also be used for fishing. lightweight and easily reproduced on smaller scale so entire family can have means of protection and food procurement.

First time watching any of your videos. Awesome job, there are few people I can tolerate watching when it comes to outdoor stuff. You do a great job. I didn’t even have to think about one item to grab because it the only thing that had been consistently carried by me for 30 years of my 39 years on this planet. That would be a knife. I can make practically anything with it. It’s an indispensable tool that I literally use multiple times everyday. I don’t understand how people can go about their day to day life without having a knife on them. It would make building a shelter so much easier and as far as fire, all I have to do is build it once, then I just have to keep it going. It can even be carried by placing an ember in a piece of fire fungus.

Here on PEI things are different than most other places... we don't really have wilderness or even remote places. If you can walk you can get help very quickly. I'm fat-adapted (keto) so food isn't important for me for days or even longer. Water can be found readily if you're not picky. Shelter would be the thing I'd want to focus on, then fire. I could get both of those going with a decent blade... if i had to pick just one maybe my gerber kukri machete for this environment. No rocks so i cant make a blade but I can keep a blade serviceable with sandstone and my leather belt.

Steel water bottle. Love my fire steel its almost a sure thing fire, but I can make a friction fire, and a container for boiling is very difficult to reproduce. Being able to disinfect water is paramount! With it i can boil medicinal plants (still studying this, next education set). Even drinking hot water in the cold can be a significant morale lift. Hot water bottle wrapped in cloth can bring feeling back to numb useless fingers. I can make char in it. I think it's the most important thing in my kit. I can live without all the rest but only if made to do so 😆.

That’s a tough one. So many different situations need different items. Something to make fire would probably be my number one thing as well. Something to boil water in would be a second consideration since good drinking water is essential. It would suck to have to make this decision. I have my list of top 10 things I will bring with me but to narrow it down to one I don’t know if I can do because of different scenarios. I’m gonna have to think about this tonight. as of right now I’m going with something to make fire.

I do not own one but I would chose a "Mora Garberg Carbon". 1= because I do not own one. 2= It will work as a flint and steel. 3= It will Kill, scrape and skin animals. So I can have leather and clothing. 4= makes tools, like Bow drills, pot hangers, spoons, tongs, back pack frames, frog gigs, scrapes bark to make cordage, shaves birch bark and fat wood. Cuts aluminum cans to use for making char materials. 5= Defense and if necessary Offence. 6= Pokes holes in materials that could be sewn with the bark cordage. Maybe a tent or rain poncho. 7= easier to process found garbage into other tools.

If I didn't take a ferrorod because I didn't look like a copycat, I'd take a saw of some type, because there is no easy way to process the kind of larger diameter wood you need for fire and structures easily. You can make a fire without ferrorod, you can make a knife-like object without a knife or cutting tool, but there aren't great options for making a saw without a saw blade to process significant size lumbar.

Every video makes me miss the Maritimes! Tough call for sure. For me it comes down to knife or fire steel. In the end I think I would go knife - would saying my Mora Light my Fire knife which also comes with a fire steel be cheating?? If not then I would take that. If so I would grab my SRK. As others have mentioned it comes down to location and situation. One can make fire in so many ways including just "finding it" and once going using some technique to transport if needed or just keep it going. I think having a knife would make more sense as it is such a versatile tool for making stuff, protection, etc and depending on location (such as PEI) there may not be adequate stone / material to make a knife. Definitely something that made me think! Will ask some of my other "camping" buddies what their 1 item would be. Awesome video as always! Be well!

I'd have to say I'd bring a kettle for boiling water. I can always make a fire with some wood. But if worse comes to worse and I cant find game or anything to eat i can at least have clean water to survive on for a long time. Also I am in arizona so its mostly desert and water would be quite scarce. But I am only one man that would be on this trip so it would be fine for me. Your fire choice is also a great one especially if you're mostly in damp climates... But push on man I dig the channel! I'm subscribing right now 100! Camp on my friend.
