One of the best things about the movie for me is the analog horror style it uses throughout the movie. That and Nicolas is hilarious.

I generally enjoyed the movie but had a few issues with it. I thought it had pacing problems, and the discovery of the killer's pattern was too convoluted-it felt like when the kids from Stranger Things quickly pieced together what the Upside Down is. Also think the movie lacked suspense for a good portion of its runtime because most of the intense scenes were flashbacks, putting what was at stake in the present, in the background.

The metal spheres are a reference to Phantasm, in which a Tall Man pursues a young boy. The Tall Man, from a parallel dimension turns dead bodies into zombies, who also pursue a young boy and also do Tall Man’s bidding on his slave planet. He incapsulates their brain in a metal sphere that are in the heads of the zombies. Thus more mind control symbolism. Also, IIRC a metal sphere incorporates protruding blades and gets lodged into another zombies forehead. A drill comes out of the sphere and digs into the zombies brain, sucks blood out of the brain which is shooting out of the back of the sphere as if its “extracting information” from its victim. my take on the spheres is more mind control subtext or wiping one’s memory(extracting info). In the end of the film Agent Lee’s gun jams while trying to destroy the metal sphere in the girls doll. So she is unsuccessful in breaking the mind control or the memory wipe thats been put on the girl

There is a metal orb inside each doll. This is how Longlegs, who is more Devil-like than human, possesses each father to makes them murder their family and k. themselves afterward. Studying Longlegs's pattern, Lee knows that Longlegs still has one more kill left. (From google)

Right, but why a metal ball?
@slowboywhiteboardv46 ай бұрын
@@JayDyer yeah idk how a metal ball could possess someone 🤔
@slowboywhiteboardv46 ай бұрын
Into these balls he used Satanic magic to add a little piece of himself. When these dolls were brought into people's homes, he could use this piece of himself to whisper to them. He's also an agent of Satan, as he tells Harker shortly before he... "visits his master" (from: what to watch) Just seems like a lame plot device

@@JayDyerit wasn’t the metal ball itself that was significant but what was held inside of it. Longlegs put it was said some sort of black magic and an essence of himself inside of them, which possessed the families and drove the father to commit these things. I’m sure there’s some sort of occult significance to the metal used as Perkins last film gretel and Hansel was steeped and well versed in occult concepts.

The writer/director Oz Perkins said that he picked the title "Longlegs" just because he liked the sound of it. As far as the film goes the Perkins said that the Devil had no other reason but to have people murder their own kin which is very lazy writing IMO. Perkins also said that his inspiration for the film was his parents lying to him. And his parents are actor Anthony Perkins who played Norman Bates and his mother is actress Berry Berenson who died on flight 11 that stuck the World Trade Tower. Also, his father Anthony Perkins was a closeted homosexual. That is probably the main lie Oz Perkins is talking about.

Longlegs director commentary, 14 minutes in, FBI chiefs office. A picture of Bill Clinton is prominently displayed on the wall behind the desk. Several times throughout the movie of course. "Somebody said in the test audience, either this movie takes place in the 90's or somebody really likes Clinton. *laughs*. Originally, it was written as, I guess it turned out to be 1993. It was written as 1992, uhm, and I changed it to '93 when I realized that, uh, it would have to be george bush if it was 92. We'd have to be looking at fucking pictures of George Bush all the time so I just..nudged it.. And you get brother bill in there instead." -Osgood Perkins (Longlegs director commentary) "Brother" Bill.. wtf?
