/* ---- VIDEO INFORMATION ---- */
Ok so Did you know that the Devil appears throughout Longlegs in the background of several scenes. The dark shadowy figure is hidden in the film and in this video we're gonna break it all down.
I love doing these kind of videos and one of our biggest breakdowns on the channel was talking about everytime Pennywise was hidden in the background of IT. There's also all the hidden ghosts in the haunting of hill house and Longlegs has a lot of hidden details too.
I've rewatched the film with my note pad to pick out all the devil in the details and haven't been this fixated on him since I watched Wandavision.
-
Unlike that though he's really here and in this video we're gonna go through every sighting. I've had to boost the brightness for a lot of these appearances as the figures pretty well hidden in the movie. People on the internet so far have managed to find 10 which many believe ties in with the bible verse about the ten crowns. However I believe that I've found an 11th which I'll talk about at the end of the video.
I don't wanna waste any of your time so let's jump into the first confirmed appearance at 16 minutes.
In the scene we catch Harker looking through some photographs which the character has splayed out on the floor. As we cut to a wide shot of the room we can see the figures there to the left hand side. The demonic figure is like a black shadow with goat like horns protruding from the top of his head.
The devil is described as sometimes appearing like a black goat which is something that also happened in the VVITCH. Showing up for just a split second the shadow then fades away as the scene plays out.

There is a shot of longlegs in his home/studio where he is on his bed, motionless and the camera flips to what must be his POV, which is pointed back towards the other end of the room -- his work area. Near the left side of the screen, an amorphous black mist moves across a chair or something. I wish I had bought the movie and not just rented it so I could give you a timestamp but something is definitely there.

I can't really believe the FBI, knowing Lee's connection to the killer, knowing he'd been to their home and him telling her "ask your mother" when asking about an accomplice, didn't result in a squad of police AT LEAST accompanying Lee to her family home. But hey, who said cops were smart. It definitely ends leaving you wanting more tho and I thoroughly enjoyed the panic I felt during the final act as well as the overall atmosphere/build-up. One influence that wasn't mentioned here but definitely is inspired by Seven, and I hate to love when horror ends, horrifically.

It's the opposite of that, very intentionally. It's part Silence of the Lambs, Seven, and Zodiac per the director. If you haven't seen those, check them out, they are all 3 the same vibe, but dozens of times better written and executed. I liked Longlegs, but it stops short of being truly great like those three.

I've been a horror fan for 40 years, and I've watched so much over the years that pretty much most films don't scare me or get my attention anymore. Longlegs is that exception, best horror film I've seen in 10 years or more. What made the film great was the way Oz Perkins made you looking at something, the distant tree line, etc. If you recall when Harker visits the house, finds the doll, the nails in the wood that were white, they were all shaped like crosses. It's that subtlety, hiding images etc. along with the complete breakdown mentally of characters, Alicia Witt was phenomenal as Ruth, Cage was just completely out there. Someone should get a nomination for an Academy Award for this film.

I really like the one at 4:36. At first you assume none of them can see The Devil and that it only appears on the reflection, but a moment later it turns out that father and mother are already fully controlled by The Devil. Harker (protagonist) is the only one facing into the house, the father and mother are indeed seeing The Devil right in front of them but they are already his puppets.

Saw this 3 times at the theater and stayed away from all the videos explaining it til now. I have a playlist of over 100 videos with reviews, discussions and interpretations to watch. This one intrigued me so much I've started going down the rabbit hole today. I hesitated watching anything on Longlegs because I just liked the uneasiness and creepiness that it represented. Loved all the Black Goats hidden. The only one I saw was the most obvious one when Harker was a little girl and it was behind her. I don't think I'd ever find the one where u mentioned that the contrast had to be lightened but I was suprised at how many were in plain sight. I don't know how I missed the one on the door at the end though and I don't think there's a black goat in the tree. That's looking a little too hard. A couple of notes to add. Nic Cage also said the look was inspired by his mother because he remembers her having cold cream all over her face. After I heard that when I look at Longlegs he does appear to have a face like that. Also, the actress from Sabrina had the starring role in Perkins 1st movie The Blackcoat's Daughter about a student at a prep boarding school who welcomes the Devil into her life. It's a very creepy movie that imo connects very well to Longlegs. Can't wait til Bluray comes out for this one. There's gonna be a commentary by Perkins for the entire movie. That should really be interesting.

1:55, 2:06, 2:22, 4:04, & 4:40 were all the devil sightings i spotted! cool to see some other ones that i didn’t catch before like this one at 3:12! the last sighting when the black guy shuts the front door to reveal the devil in its reflection is my personal fave

You know what's crazy? I just watched this last night for the first time and all throughout the movie I swear I kept telling myself and my gal that I was seeing something in the background constantly. I am so glad I wasn't just seeing things. Great movie.

Love how, here in America, when you said "the devil can be described as...", they cut to a commercial for a certain person....running for something... bravo, ad people!

First thing I thought when I saw Cage's character was "he looks like an old 80's Hair Metal guy that had too many Plastic Surgeries" and sure enough . Great character for a Horror Villain tbh

My daughter noticed right away. On a side note, late night with the devil was scarier. This was good but very hyped up. The premise is the scary part, imo. Kinda like late night but the late night with the devil has MUCH larger repercussions. An archon was released into the world's TV sets vs demonic ritual killings. Scale packs a punch, imo.

Really like the tone of this movie throughout though I do think Cage is a little too Cage sometimes and throws it off a bit. Almost makes the movie feel less scary in a way

There was a scene where she was at her mom's house in the kitchen and the devil was in the top of the door window. You missed it

You missed the smoke when she was in the bathroom i think. Starting at 55 minutes. In the next shot the window is completely black.

You are low-key a film reviewer in terms of judging whether a movie is good or bad. I now have to watch the movie before I dive further into this video.
