I think a lot of people overlook that accuracy and barrel length aren't strongly really related in long guns. Bill Marr has done some really nice series of cutting barrels down inch by inch to test velocity changes, and he regularly shows that there's no accuracy loss as the barrel shortens. As long as the hit to muzzle velocity isn't crippling, sure use a short barrel. The new military rifle is designed for a 13" barrel. Nice to see this video, SR. Thanks for uploading!

I watched one of those tests. Very enlightening. I love how this rifle handles, and the short barrel is a great choice. Now I need to try my suppressor on it.

Them CMMGs shot nice but for me I like 20" barrels over the 16" just for the extra velocity

I am planning to use my Ruger SFAR 16" hunting black and brown bear hunting where I live in Alaska this year, I'd love to see some gel testing with a 16" 308 with heavier and tougher bullet designs!

I filmed a few recent tests with the Accubond and Terminal Ascent bonded bullets if you want to see how those perform. They're coming out of a 22" barrel, but the data should still be useful.

This is great info. I just picked up a new in box Bushmaster 308 carbine with a 16 inch barrel. Is it ok to shoot hunting rounds out of it or will it be dangerous? It doesn't have an adjustable gas block. Thank you..

So what are your thoughts on the new 400 Legend? Im at an age (53) where im not sure i need or want another new caliber. Btw I love that winchester round. My son used it on 3 deer in my 350 legend. And ive taken a few with my 308.

It's another brilliant cartridge. I like that they chose the same diameter as common .40-cal and 10mm bullets. Should be a lot of fun to reload. In my case, I have no use for it. 350 Legend is plenty for the deer and hogs in my area. Good to hear from you, Bradbo3!

It's the new CMMG model. It seems to borrow its design (and performance) from Ultradyne. The Ultradyne is more hardcore.

@The Social Regressive ahh ok thanks for the quick reply I had an Apollo muzzlebrake on my 308 before someone broke in and stole it a couple of years back. With the ultradyne brake there was basically zero recoil but it was loud
