I grew up near the Modoc Reservation on the Oklahoma/Missouri border; my cousin married a descendant of Captain Jack's, incidentally.

It feels weird to see a video about the old west with this many good people in it ... Nice to see that people can be civilized when given the opportunity . And I mean everyone involved .....

Wow!! I love this!! I feel like this is one Indian war that’s never talked about in the history of the frontier.

Fascinating. I spent a lot of time around Tule Lake when I was a child. Learned about this, then. Without the details though. Looking forward to your next installment,

Obviously the product of many, many hours of diligent research, then the video creation. Great history yet completely unknown by most Americans. I looked for it in my Time-Life volume on the Indians and the Modocs are not even mentioned. This is the best sort of content for short videos.

This is a awesome video on the History of the Modoc Indians Wars. I hope that the next series will include the fighting at the Lava Beds. I use to live in the town of Alturas California in Modoc County in the early 80s and was friends with some of the Modoc tribe there and they are good people. I fished and Camped at Clear Lake many times and Its so Beautiful there. Thanks for the video to.

I don't think anyone outside of those of us who grew up in the Tulelake, Newell, area know about this part of history. Even then it is glossed over and not gone into detail. We just learn that the Modoc escape from the Klamath reservation and hold out fighting against the government as long as they are able. That the Modoc spent a hard winter holding out at Captain Jack's stronghold. In the end they were force onto reservations in Klamath and those who were trouble makers in Oklahoma.

The river meanders around, not flowing straight (more or less) from one lake to the other, hence “lost river”.

In the beginning you did you say most of the main players know eachother? Like the people from opposing sides new each other?
