When tasting the variety of nasi lemak of different places, you have to pay attention to: 1. the basic ingredients or rather the garnishing/side dishes that each offers eg does it come with raw cucumber slices, or blanched kangkung (water spinach), etc. 2. the fragrant rice itself, does it come with very noticeable coconut milk fragrance and creaminess or even saltiness, is it prepared the conventional way by cooking it inside the regular electric rice cooker the way we cook regular rice, or is it steamed inside some wooden or rattan basket 3. the very important sambal. Is it sweet, is it very hot, its it very watery, is it rather pasty, does it contain belacan, does it contain anchovies, etc

Malaysia is bless with variety of races and ethnics that historically blended the world of cooking throughout generations and creating the wonderful world of cuisines, culinaries that even today attracted people from all over the globe due to Malaysia's unique style with colors, designs, tastes etc. Just imagine in the era of great Malacca Sultanate in the year 1400s....people all over the world came to Malacca Empire port full of ships, businesses, diplomats that witnessed over 84 languages spoken in those times and orginal Malay language as lingua franca in the Nusantara region even before the existence of ASEAN countries as of today.
