I remember when this was making its rounds but I never read it. I've recently found the graphic novel and might try reading that. I wonder how different that will be.

GASP! HELLO! Oh my goodness I miss you. it's so good to see you. I was not even aware there was a graphic novel of the book. Even more so now, I hope more of the youth pick up his book. It would be interesting to know if they are different. The graphic novel might be good for the youth who struggle reading and are visual learners to see the pictures though. The book surprised me. Even though I knew what it was about their were a few things that surprised me and missed the boat of when it went around or was popular. LOL Thank you for dropping in and leaving a comment. I miss your videso and you and I was just talking to my son this past week about how so many people who were on booktube when we first started have gone away. =( I understand though. Life. 🤗

I usually like books in verse for young people. There was one I had to DNF because of anti-white racism and too bad, it was on the Newbery list and I'll probably never get back to it. Like you said, most you can read in a few hours which is good because at least young people will not be frustrated reading them, and will be able to get through the entire book. Let's hope.

When was the anti-whit racism book published? After 2008? or after 2020? If it is before 2008 I'll be very surprised.

@@BookZealots That book was one of the recent honor books. Within the last few years. I am so disgusted by the changes in the types of books receiving awards. I've given up my Newbery project. I can't support or recommend their list anymore.

@@Eldertalk It is such a shame certain ideologies are being pushed and "awarded" by Newbery project and the like. I remember you had tackled that reading project for yourself and your disappointment in the books. Do you remember what publicated year you stopped? You were reading them in order right?
@Eldertalk20 күн бұрын
@@BookZealots No, I wasn't reading them in publication order. I skipped around a lot. But the most recent year I read from was 2022. The winner, The Last Cuentista, wasn't bad for a Mexican Sci-Fi kid's novel, but some of the honor books were not happy-reads for me. Watercress was a nice picture book that took about 10 minutes to read.

@@Eldertalk Oh, okay. I think I might have been confusing you with another booktuber. I know there was another booktuber who was doing a Newbery book reading challenge. sorry about that.

Listened (maybe the physical book would be better) to this back in 2018. It was fine but I didn’t really get it (not the target here either) - wouldn’t reread 🙃

I'm not an auditory person, so I don't do many audiobooks. I've also noticed that when I do, I also follow along with the book, how often the audio is different; sentences or paragraphs left out or changed. I think the way the verse is on the pages helps with the story and that would be lost in the audiobook. Thank you for sharing your experience.
