RJ just came across this video and I have to say the mountain looks fantastic. Please keep the updates coming as I have subscribed to your channel and want to see all of the additions and progress but please stop the negative statements about how this or that does not look good because what you have done is amazing.

Awesome work, RJ! I love the still shots along with the video, too. Your hair length, facial stubble, and variety of tees help add to the timeline of what you're accomplishing. Tea drinker? Hmmmm.... NY Mets shirt? You the man! I'm off to Cass Railroad in W Virginia in two weeks... always wanted to ride a Shay rather than just interpret one for the visitors at the PA RR museum! Stay good.

Wow I think it's looking great. What a big distance! 2 things I would suggest, 1 I've heard it said by many that it's good to bake your dirt or microwave it and that kills any bacteria or organisms that you don't want still living in the dirt. 2 for the vertical areas, I would try a thin layer of Aleene's tacky glue with a brush, then put fine sifted dirt on a paper and blow it at the vertical area. Good luck, it's really turning out cool.
@rj.trains2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the tip. Yes the dirt was baked beforehand, I just forgot to mention that.

That's some great craftsmanship on the mountain RJ, and I mean that. On most layout mountains they look better the farther away you get from them but on yours the closer you get the better it looks! NOT easily done, by any means! Oh, "Mennen's Toilet Powder?" I'd say that doesn't mean what you think it does. Back in the olden time what a man did in the morning such as face washing, shaving, tooth brushing and hair combing was typically referred to as "the morning toilet" believe it or not. Toilet powder was a scented cover-up in a time when people only bathed once a week and deodorants didn't exist yet. Just when the word "toilet" made the jump from morning ablutions to the porcelain throne I've no idea. Anyway, a "Maple's Dog Food" ad on the mountain will save you a lot of explaining! 🤣 Very wise taking some train run breaks to clear your head! And go ahead, run Stepney any time you want, Stepney's cool! Thanks for posting!
@rj.trains2 ай бұрын
Thank you so much Wayne! I didn’t know that about toilet powder, I assumed it was some sort of cleaning thing. All I knew is I didn’t want “toilet” on my mountain haha
@wayneantoniazzi27062 ай бұрын
@@rj.trains You're welcome RJ! Yeah, you have to be over a certain age to remember things like "toilet powder" and "toilet water" which is DEFINATELY NOT what you think it is! (It was kind of a perfume/cologne.) Now the "Mennen" on the sign is the same company that brought us "Skin Bracer" after shave which I'm sure you're familiar with. I've been a user since I was 16!

@@wayneantoniazzi2706 Will you be at York next month?
@wayneantoniazzi27062 ай бұрын
@@rj.trains Absolutely! Unless the proverbial "something happens" to derail my plans. I'm driving up Thursday the 17th and MAY hit one of the halls depending on what time I get there OR if I'm not burned out by the drive. I swear the last time I drove up EVERYBODY on the 695 Beltway around Baltimore was trying to kill me! I'll definately be there all day Friday and at least until early Saturday afternoon when the show starts to wind down.

Really great progress on the mountain, RJ! I didn't you'd actually pick up some real dirt to use for ground cover. That's very old school. It also can make the layout heavier, if you use too much. But know how much is necessary for the effect you want, and it looks very good. I wouldn't have used so many trees, but leave a little openness here and there. Over all, you've managed to complete a lot scenic work and it's looking good. Looking forward to the next part.

@rj.trains2 ай бұрын
Thanks! That is how the Strasburg Railroad operates their passenger trains.
@SteveInNEPA12 ай бұрын
@rj.trains I kinda wish the Strasburg could add a roundtable, use the one at the adjacent museum, or construct a wye somewhere so that they could run their locomotives in the proper direction both ways. It just always looks a bit odd seeing their steam locos running backwards for the outbound to Paradise.
