One of those games in the so-called 'Soul Blazer' saga, along with Illusion of Gaia (or Illusion of Time in Europe) and Terranigma, the latter was only localized for Europe unfortunately. The story is about some 'unnamed' soldier who is sent by the Master to restore the world and protect it from Deathtoll and his troops of evil. Each world holds a colored stone, these are the main keys to gain access to the last area, named 'The World of Evil' where Deathtoll is located, though they're not the only requirement to complete the game, you also have to collect three special items to summon the Phoenix, which is the strongest magic attack and the only way to defeat Deathtoll's true form. As the player progresses, a series of areas start to become available, triggering subquests and also optional stuff as well. This is why I recommend trying to explore every place in each world, since a 100% completion in this game is really a fun task :) Oh and as a note, the maximum level you can reach is 50, though with 24 is enough to complete the game if you ask me, as long as you make wise use of magic, refill items and armor.

Also reminds a game called Gauntlet in a way, where the monsters spawn out of their cubby holes.

I still hold Soul Blazer as one of my favorite action/adventure games on the SNES. Actraiser paved the way for my love of Quintet's work (and is also still a favorite overall for its unique gameplay), but this game was just a fun, creative adventure. Lisa's Song is also still one of my favorite video game themes of the gaming era (did you know there's a "real" version of that song with Japanese lyrics and everything?). Thanks for the playthrough video!

This whole trilogy should be CAREFULLY remastered like Final Fantasy on the PSP and ported to modern systems and Steam.

Sadly I think SquareEnix has forgotten most of their 16-bit games. Although with Live-a-Live getting a remake anything is possible.

@@freddiejohnson6137 Actraiser also got a remake.

This is one of my favourite early SNES games one of the few RPG series we actually got here in the UK because it was considered at the time we wouldn't like turn based ones as much so we tended to only get more action based ones like this and secret of mana. The we even missed out on Nintendo published rpgs like Earthbound and Super Mario RPG shows you how little they though of the market over here and they always seemed like these expensive unobtainable games back then.

Omg!! This was the game made me sad cuz I can’t finish when I am a child. I just remember I got lost at the castle which had many invisible roads…. After I grow up , I forgot the game’s name. Thank you for this video let me remember and finally know the end😘

Did Dark Cloud draw inspiration from this game? Specifically the element of finding town parts from the dungeon?

No idea but it's a fun combo: dungeon crawler with some god-sim elements. I'd like a spiritual successor where you find the people and they can give you quests rather then just getting random items placed in the various houses.
