My first iPOD was the NANO 2nd Gen, then 4th Gen, then 6th Gen, then 7th Gen. I love my music and podcasts ; since 2004. I have built up a significant music library in the Apple Eco-System. Along the way I got an iPOD Touch 4th Gen in 2010. Which expanded my interest into the iOS Apps. Not really games. But Utility Apps, since I am also a techie. I have purchased hundreds of dollars of music from iTUNES. So having an up to date iPOD product for iTUNES is a thing for me. However, a fly in the ointment is I'm an Android Phone user. I love Android phones with a passion. And would never go with an iPHONE. Even if it were handed to me FREE. If so, I would give it away to a family member. But the music & podcasts are a different thing. My stuff is in the iPOD-Eco system. And it's huge. I'm 48 years old now. I am no child. But I love music and consider my iOS music library to be as relevant today as it was back 2004'ish. I use my iOS devices to this very day when I go for a walk in a park, a bike ride, while at home meditating and/or reading on a Kindle. My music library (podcasts & iPOD Touch Apps) 'keep my foot in the door' with the Apple iOS Eco-system. But, I am NOT getting an iPHONE (no matter what). I am a true Android loyalist when it comes to phones. And I'm not going to change. That stubbornest has amp'ed up as I near 50 years old. So yes, there is a niche audience out there that iPHONE users know nothing about. I have been kinda under the radar. But I think APPLE knows we are out there. OASN: I bought the iPOD Touch 7th (2019) just 2 weeks ago. Thank you Apple for thinking about us. My older iOS devices still work. But it's nice to get our hands on a new device. OARN: I no longer possess my iPOD Nano 2nd Gen. I gave it to my sister. It still works fine almost 20 years later.

I use mine as a satnav as I do not abuse my phone by overheating it. $150 you cannot go wrong especially as you can also play your music to your car. I also use it as a mapping device for hiking, I bought the latest GPS and a hardcore case and is ideal for walking. If it gets broken better than my $1000 phone. I can use it for receiving calls at home, so if my phone is in the kitchen I can answer in the main room. Works for me and I suspect other consumers that may include children and businesses. I am sure if Apple was not still making a good profit on the previous model they would have just phased it out. There are very few alternatives to something like an iPod so well done Apple in updating it. And for those that claim it has older hardware, for what it does, it does not need the latest chip. Bearing in mind the flagship Samsung tablet, the Tab S4 runs on the SD835 and was priced as flagship, then Apple haters need to look closer to home.

Notably, the touch now comes with 2gb which is why it will update to iOS 13, unlike the outgoing version with just 1gb. Nowadays the primary market for these is corporate tech spies who shut them off, hide them in their sock, and use them for industrial espionage later. ;-) The 4" screen is a feature, not a shortcoming. In terms of the camera, imho that camera is better than 90% of non-top tier Android phones. What I use these (my last gen model) for is travel. So long as I have my spare reading glasses with 1.0 diopter extra strength, this works as well as my 4.7" iPhone. I think in this paragraph I'm just kidding. But maybe not.

Back in the day and iPod touch was a great way to experience the smart phone world without paying the phone and plan premiums associated with them. Today however, I’m not sure that there is really a market for a device that is not a phone given the low Entry cost of phones. I guess it would still be a good option for a parent to give their young child. I know I for one have no need for an iPod touch.

Big problem with iPod touch is that it does not support mobile data. So if you plan to use it as mp3 player your deezer/spotify/pandora subscriptions would not work. So that thing only is a big NO from me. Other than that I think it is very usable, for instance it is smaller than majority of phones and not as bulky (with those covers) so you can wear it in a pocket, use it as a camera, play super simple games from time to time (Switch is much more complex, bigger, heavier, and battery life is 3 hours max)

I must have overpaid at $199 for a locked 6s from Simple Mobile. Oh wait, I got the Plus version. I don't know why I'm so annoyed it's locked, since it's basically like an oversized touch without the cellular available. One huge advantage of carrier locked iPhones these days is that they will run without a sim. In the old days you needed a sim to activate them initially and after each iOS version update.
