I'm 70. My whole life, since I was a girl, I never "tucked in" my tops. Always felt I had to cover my tummy even when I weighed only 120! Well, lately I've dropped that ridiculous self-consciousness and found that tucking in now enhances my shape! Maybe it's the more "mature " proportions that make tucking in give me a "taller " appearance. So, yes, no more fears of the tummy for me! Great tips, as always, Heather! Thanks!

She ‘s such a sweetheart! I too love V necks and think they are the most flattering neckline. I really don’t want scoop necks, and will not buy turtlenecks, even in my northern winter. But many empire waisted tops do not give enough room in the bust.

Awesome tips. I'm short with a short torso, but long legs. I find tucking in shirts emphasises my short torso and makes me look heavier. Leaving my shirt out then wearing a jacket or sweater over it makes my torso look longer and is more slimming. Just a tip for any other short and short torsoed ladies.

These are my favorite videos you do, with the comparisons. I was at the mall yesterday and went from store to store trying on clothes. It felt good to realize that I was able to pass over certain items that I loved on the rack because I had the knowledge that they wouldn't look good on me. Saved me a lot of time and discouragment and I was able to find some things that did work.

Hi Heather: Great tips, which are important to remember when we're "mature". It's all too easy to default to a comfort zone at this point. Used to be, I knew exactly what to wear when I was slimmer and younger. Even though I've lost weight, my body shape will never be the same, so..I have to check myself. I always go with the dark wash or black jeans. I have to tell you, I've not had luck with Amazon as far as clothing is concerned. ☹️ I can definitely use some new undies and shape wear; working on that. Oh no, sorry to hear that. I just bought 20 items and only sent 2 back. Are you measuring yourself with a tape measurer and reading the size charts? Thanks for your tips Heather. You always have such good tips. Sometimes it's the opposite for me--that I want to look heavier, just not be heavier. I got away from wearing leggings & skinny jeans. I like the looser jeans that are coming out. They are so comfortable. Yes, I'm back to wearing jeans again! When I do wear looser jeans & pants, I make sure I wear a top that is in proportion so I'm not wearing baggy on top, baggy on bottom. Sometimes I will tuck in a t-shirt and wear a belt. And if I am wearing more fitted jeans & pants, I like a looser top. I also like wearing an unbuttoned cardigan now that the weather is colder in my area.

I gained weight on the medication I used to take. I’m no longer taking that medication. And I’m already losing weight. I went up a larger size in most my clothes. I noticed the other day that my jeans looked huge on me. So, I’m finally back in my normal size. Now I need to work on my belly. I’m short waisted and carry all my weight around my waist.I loved the first look you showed. And I’m going to have to get something like that. I still have a lot to hide there. I usually just wear shorts and t shirts. But it’s actually cooling down in the south. So it was jeans and I shirt today. I don’t want to look twenty. But I just want some kind of shape, other than round.

I spent waaaay too much time being obsessed with my weight. I studied ballet when I was young and later worried about looking younger and fit so spent lots of hours in the gym. As my kids got into various sports and activities, I felt it was more important to be there for my kids (I also worked full time and was divorced). I didn’t put my face in a gallon of ice cream every night, made sure to do exercise when I could, but let go of unrealistic expectations. And I felt bad about not being in shape! Now, as I’m approaching 70 (getting there soon!) I don’t want to spend the rest of my life beating myself up because I don’t wear a size 10 or whatever. I’m buying clothing that fits (whatever number that size is within reason) and is more forgiving of the changing shape of my body. We have to accept that our bodies change as we get older, have kids, need to work more hours or whatever paths life leads us down. We do not have to be skinny!

I have always been thin, to the point of being called names. But since I have retired, late last year, I have gained a lot of weight. I have never been this heavy even when I was pregnant. I have to say, I am one of those that looks in the mirror now and just sees fat me. How do I get over that and just love myself? I am having a real hard time with it.

As a former model I can truly relate. Eat well, do some exercise and know that this is the new normal for you. It's OK, we are much more than our dress size. Hope this helps Donna

I love your tips! Just one point: Is the emphasis on Looking Slimmer not potentially rather..... Demoralising? And anachronistic? To make it personal (for illustration) , I'm 63, medium height and about 180lbs. So... I'm overweight. And you know what? Finally, at this stage in my life, I'm not wanting to Look Slimmer.... I'm wanting to know how to emphasise my good points (like, my legs, wrists, neck...), sure. If in the process I look slimmer, OK. But that's not all I'm about, when I get dressed. Perhaps, in the third decade of the 21st century, it's time to shake off the shackles of the 1960s and address how women can look good WITHOUT being Slim/Thin....?

I know what you mean and I am not trying to demoralise. As a former model I am the heaviest I have ever been and I actually stress not to try to be super thin (I suffered from bulemia) We are moving forward on body acceptance but there are women who still want the tips to look just a little more slender with tricks.

@@lovingourage I getcha. And to be fair, I follow your vids and you don't generally make it all about Being/Looking Thin... But I wonder if there aren't quite a lot of us out here who are FINALLY, in our 60s, starting to love our (non-thin) bodies as they are and every reminder that Society still only really admires THIN is a bit of a set-back. I'm sorry you were bulimic ; SO many congratulations on overcoming that horrible illness. You're doing a great job!

They should be but try a few styles on. If you want slimming go for a navy or dark green in a longer cut dress. Hope this helps

What you're seeing is the close captioning. There's a little symbol that looks like a notepad where you can turn it off. Hope this helps (or you can also Google how to remove it for your device)
