Look Inside Delightful Reading Level 2: Words I Can Build

I never knew that children are usually ready to read before writing! My daughter did 2 half days three preschool and is in two full days 4s preschool now. Next year we are homeschooling for K and they do tons of writing and she can write the whole uppercase alphabet and some lowercase. But they don’t really do much with reading and my daughter has been wanting to read so bad! I’m excited to try this!

I've worked on preschools and can say this is true for most children. Their reading interest will develop ahead of their fine motor skills for writing or understanding of writing especially if the child is regularly read to and conversed with and played with socially. Writing will be best prepared with mark making, drawing, fine motor skill development in play and crafts and life skills. It will all come in it's right time for each child's right timing. :) Hope you have fun learning to read :)

This summer I found the 2011 Delightful Reading kit at a homeschool conference materials swap. I was thrilled to see some materials from our beloved SCM, and have 3 little ones who have yet to learn to read so I got it! (My eldest children learned to read before I discovered CM and her volumes.) Would the single kit from 2011 be adequate for introducing letters and their sounds as your new Level 1 kit does? After several years of homeschooling, I know there is no finding "the perfect kit that will solve everything." It's more about consistent, short, engaging, CM-method lessons. But if investing in Level 1 is a help and simplifies rather than creates more hurdles (as all your materials we have used do), I'm open to getting it, as well. Thanks

The original Delightful Reading kit contains the same lessons as the current Level 3 (From Words to Books) kit. In the original teacher guide, there was a brief mention of some alphabet games (page 27) and word-building play activities (pages 29-34) you could do. Level 1 and Level 2 expand those into full lesson plans. We'd suggest looking at the pages in the original teacher guide that talk about Level 1 and Level 2. If you feel there's enough guidance for you with those explanations, you should be fine with just the kit you have.

Hi Patricia! We are unaware of a Spanish curriculum however you can teach your child to read without a curriculum, utilizing Charlotte's method. You will simply follow the suggestions found within each video substituting your mother language.

How are the word cards in the kit used? I see how they build different word families with the tiles and learn basic phonics but not what the word cards are for. Thank you!

The word cards are for games that involve sight word practice, typically reviewing words the child has already built in previous lessons.

My not yet 3 and a half year old daughter has had her alphabet memorized for around a year now, and is mostly familiar with sounds, but more confident than sounds, she has been writing her capital letters down with crayons. I think it is time for me to help her progress more intentionally than I have been. Would you recommend level 1 or 2?

We don't have specific experience with Delightful Reading and dyslexia, but we know some homeschoolers have used it with dyslexic students.
