If my 6 year old doesn't know all his letter names and sounds yet is this the best box to start with?
@SimplyCharlotteMason4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you'll want to start here if your child does not yet know the letter names and sounds. You want to lay a solid foundation before moving on to further reading lessons.

What age at can we start to teach Abc?
@SimplyCharlotteMason3 ай бұрын
Great question! Charlotte Mason recommended that formal lessons not be required until a child is six years old. That being said, if a child demonstrates interest in learning letters before that time, you can certainly engage them in informal learning activities to teach them these ideas. Here is helpful link that goes into how to gently introduce concepts in the preschool and kindergarten years as your child demonstrates interest. simplycharlottemason.com/planning/preschool-guide/

How do you approach bilingual training if both parents speak two different languages? My spouse is fluent in English and you can’t tell her accent apart from an American born speaker. But I speak Russian. Together we hope to move to Moldova (the Russian speak ing area). How do we approach language learning ? Should all lessons be in one language or both?
@SimplyCharlotteMason5 жыл бұрын
You’ll want to speak both languages right from the start, so your child hears them both spoken without accents. Young children can hear and speak multiple languages easily, and those early years are when you lay the foundation for being able to discern the different sounds that are unique to each language. But when it comes time to focus on reading and writing, choose one language to be the focus first. Get your child familiar with that language’s letters and phonics guidelines and comfortable with reading and writing it before you introduce the other’s letters and phonics. Symbols on paper and phonics rules are abstract concepts, and it can be confusing to try to learn two sets at the same time. You’ll want to think of the reading and writing lessons in layers. Start with one language and focus on fluency in reading and writing for about grades 1-3; then continue reading and writing practice in that language even as you layer in beginning reading and writing of the next language. But during all of the years, speak both languages.

My 3 year old points out all the upper case letters and often asks what words say. She doesn't know her lower case or many of the sounds. Also, she is only 3. I don't think she's ready for step 2. I'm debating getting step 1 now or waiting a year because of her age. I think she could do all the activities though, she loves books and often "reads" to us.

You'll want her to know the lowercase letters and the sounds for each letter before you start Level 2. You could just keep playing informally with letters and sounds until she's ready, or if you want some guidance, the Level 1 kit is great for introducing all of the letters (upper- and lowercase) and sounds.

@@kristenheuer5676 Not at all. If she's showing signs of readiness for learning about letters and sounds, Level 1 would be perfect for her. This video gives some "signposts" to look for to help you determine readiness: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYPFg5aYq51qjK8
