Especially when it comes down to international competition and getting players into the highest level leagues (NHL, AHL, heck even higher level leagues in Europe [SHL, KHL, etc.])! It feels like Germany seems to be one of the biggest underachievers in the world!

I lived in Germany for a year and went to my local division 2 team a couple of times and it was a great building and atmosphere (capacity 3,500). The Lanxess arena in Koln was beautiful! Was there for a couple of World Championship games and it most certainly would fit into the NHL for quality of arena. Great lighting and views.

"the lots of standing at the back" in Krefeld is actually the biggest terrace stand in german ice hockey. The arena isnt that old, it was built in 2004 but they wanted a "traditional" design to comfort the puristic fan base :D

Go Bulldogs! and yeah, I love the older buildings too. My favourite team in the OHL has one where Canada beat the Soviets back in the 80's. It's a 1985 classic, but still a great building.

Lanxess Arena is the best (as well as the biggest.) It's also in Leon Draisaitl's hometown, I'm hoping the announced Oiler preseason game in Germany happens there. I noticed, by the way, that your German contact ordered the pictures in descending order of seat count.

I used to live in Germany and went to the Olympia ice stadium. I used to live in the Olympic village. I also went to a game away. Don't remember where exactly. It was Munchien's rivals. So maybe Dortmund? idk but we lived there during the NHL lockout. Erik Cole came to play in Berlin and others came too. Imagine a soccer crowd at a hockey rink. That was the atmosphere there.

In the last couple of years the plaza in front of the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin has been completely redeveloped with shopping and restaurants. It's a bit corporate and soulless, but it does really enhance the game-night experience from the huge open space that used to be there before (the arena was built along the "Death Strip" where the Berlin Wall used to run). It's a great place to watch games as the sight lines are excellent and the atmosphere is electric.

The picture of the inside of the arena in munich isn´t the inside of the Olympia Eisstadion, but of the Olympia Hall. They only play two or three games in the big arena and this event is called 'Hockey Halleluja' (In german this is also a wordplay due to the German name of that building: 'Olympiahalle')

The thing in the sap arena was a speaker. It's not there anymore tho, because the Arena was renewed. New speakers, new Score clock, just a whole more modern.

10:00 have to admit the first picture was the "Olympia-Eissportzentrum" , (capacity 6.412) but the second picture was the "Olympiahalle (capacity 15.500) which is rarely used by the EHC München

Munich was not the right foto from the outside. They have two stadiums, one for playoffs and Derbys and one for normal games. The foto from the outside is the smaller one for 6000. The second foto is the bigger one for 9000.
