As a German, let me add a few information. As many other in the comments told, the pictures of the interior Frankfurt belongs to Munich. Munich is a about to build a new arena, but it’s not finished yet. Laxness arena is not just the biggest hockey arena in Germany, it is the biggest hockey arena in Europe! It’s bigger than many NHL Arenas! Great video! Looking forward for more!

Funfact, Adler Mannheim with SAP was 1 of 3 in SAP was involved in a professional sport team in their region. There is also a handball team sponsored by SAP with Rhine-Neckar Löwen and 3 football teams, 1 with great success but mostly sponsored by one of SAP founders DIetmar Hopp but who didnt give them money in the last years to mostly go fully independent. First Astoria Walldorf a 4th german division team, Waldhof Mannheim who would have been bankrup if Hopp didnt give them millions to revive them in the early 2010s and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim since 1989 who are currently playing in the german Bundesliga and are independent since the early to mid 2010s without SAP or Hopp and Hoffenheim was hopps former football team in the 1960s and 70s
@emx0811 ай бұрын
All correct, but I gotta correct you in one aspect. Waldhof Mannheim did not get "millions". It was about 700,000 Euros (in two payments), which was just enough not to get bankrupt, which they eventually did again after 2003 (and then 2010). They had the chance to be the "early Hoffenheim" in the 90s, but the president back then refused to take the money or at least let Hopp "dictate" some of the club's policies. Oh and the Adler Mannheim are rather the project of his son Daniel Hopp. SAP still functions as one of the two biggest sponsors.

Kölner Haie are the only sports team in the arena because for the other indoor sports that are popular in Germany, cologne doesn't have teams that play in high divisions. So why would a team that attracts like 500 people for basketball or handball go into an 18.500 people arena? :D

SAP Arena in Germany, not to be confused with the SAP Center in San Jose, California.

Actually the founder and owner from SAP is from the area. So the company basically funds the club. He also owns the German Bundesliga Club 1899 Hoffenheim.

They are not afraid of corporate sponsorship in European ice hockey that's for sure, regardless these arenas lend themselves to a great atmosphere it looks like.
@manakaua836911 ай бұрын
Well, that is how professional sports is usually financed here. So it is really nothing special to us. As for germany there is usually some kind of 50+1 rule which states that a Club has to maintain more than 50% of its shares, so that no sponsor (be it a big Company or a single rich guy) can ever overrule the Clubs decision without the Clubs agreement.

We all kinda love small arenas, especially for their acustics, but when it comes to the few massive stadiums, Mannheim really takes the cake, simply because the architecture and standing capacity is far better for the sport events, than Cologne or Berlin.
