I think if you had used a 10ft leader with a treble hook you would have pulled a few up. Or a piece of salmon for bait.

Yep, there's some refining to do with that setup. They hit jigs just fine, but it's hard to get good footage with a jig, so that's why I had the flounder!

Wow, that area is thick with big boys. It didn't even look like a rocky area.

It was a sandy area, with a single piece of structure to break the current. They're all just sitting on the nice soft bottom out of the current!

We were trolling for stripers with big Rapalas. I was getting big hard hits but not hooking up. Found a video that showed the fish were banging the lure to stun it, not eat it. Went back out and when they hit the lure, I let out line to slow it down and then they came back and ate it. Never would have guessed that they did that, but a couple of minutes of video and it all made perfect sense.

Interesting! It's pretty cool figuring out what they're up to! I have another video of giant Lingcod I'll work on posting where they only looked at the bait for the longest time, until it started to come up. Once it was well off the bottom they NAILED it!

Try Cut Bait Too, see what happens, Here in Nor-Cal the Lingus really likes the Split Curley Tail Soft Plastics, That's a bunch of big fish in 1 area, Any Ideas as to Why?✌❤🤗Tight Lines Too

@@hulihulichicken check out my other video of them around the shipwreck; it’s one wreck in a large area of no structure, so they’re all surrounding it!

Damn- So close! Crazy how the bait is as big as it's head What might help is using a strategy where you put a hook through a dead sardine and bend it (Reference: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKrGpJaNmM9nm9k) so it spins as it move. Like some of the other comments suggested, a simple trap/double hook would also work wonders!

Probably! It hooked them when they bit it, it's just amazing how many of them passed on biting it!
