These are some pretty good recommendations, but there is one classic horror game that everyone is forgetting, or perhaps it was so scary everyone has repressed it! That's right, I'm talking about Shrek 2 for the PS2. Or, if you're feeling particularly gutsy, Shrek Smash n' Crash Racing. And when you're done and need something to calm down your fearful soul, you could always play Paratopic, but it isn't Shrek so I don't know why you'd bother.

Paratropic seems way too giga brain for me but it might make for a fun ride, I've heard a lot of people talking about. Shrek is far too powerful for me.

Darkstalkers is a good horror themed fighting game. It uses the same engine as Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Heritage for the Future On a similar level, the House of the Dead series are some solid zombo com rail shooters

Garfield's Scary Scavenger Hunt. It's an old flash game that is surprisingly still up on the official Garfield website. Spooky shit.

There's a game that just came out called Mistover, not really a horror game but it looks like Darkest Dungeon with an Etrian Odyssey-esque art style. It's 30 bucks though so that might be a bit of a problem. Killing Floor is a game that can be pretty fun, but you definitely need others to play it with. Bloodstained Curse of the Moon is also something that might work. I recently played that game and enjoyed it. There's also a ps2 game called Rule of Rose you could emulate, I've heard good things about it.

The only horror games I’ve actually played are Underworld Capital Incident and Forest of Drizzling Rain. Hope those are sufficient enough!

I don't know much in terms of horror games, but I like WORLD OF HORROR because of it's old pixel art style and eldritch horror aesthetic. It's short, but got a good amount of re-playablity and routes/stories. Plus it's free on itch.io Link: panstasz.itch.io/world-of-horror

Deadly Premonition is barely survival horror, FBI murder mystery chock full of (dark) humor and stars one of the greatest video game protagonists of all times, Mr. Francis York Morgan. I’m talking Samus Aran, Solid Snake levels of greatness- I’m not joking. The soundtrack is also beautiful. I’d say try emulating the Xbox 360 version if you can, it has none of the problems of later releases. Most people would say REmake, I’ll say the same. Costume Quest was made for Halloween. Psychonauts I feel fits here based on aesthetics, even though it’s set in summer. Bubble Ghost on Gameboy has you play as a cute ghost blowing a bubble through a giant mansion of obstacle courses. You could just bite the bullet and play Siren (it’s worth it).

I am an absolute coward but with all the people suggesting Siren I might try it. The issue there is I like to physically own PS2 games if I'm gonna emulate them, but I can probably get one if I really tried. Bubble Ghost though, I *owned* Bubble Ghost. I fucking love it and have since I was a little kid but I sold it off last year because I was in a tight spot. I miss that game.

My condolences for your loss. Maybe I’ll finally try to beat Bubble Ghost this month in your honor. As for Siren, it seems fairly low-priced (not counting brand new), but if you don’t want to play it, it’s fine. It’s tense and doesn’t give much breathing room, I get not wanting that.

I suggest the Siren games(Siren(ps2), Forbidden siren 2(ps2) or Siren blood curse(ps3) or any of the Fatal Frame stuff.

Siren is something that's atmosphere would probably kill me. Silent Hill 2 killed me with it's atmosphere and I never finished it as a result

Detention used to be my go-to horror game recommendation but it might not be your cup of tea, Limbo and Inside are cool. Also Pony Island is a trip and Transitor altho not a scary game could be an october game if you try hard enough. Fatal frame maybe but emulation will be a problem.

Get the obvious ones out of the way Resident evil (particularly REmake), Silent Hill, Clock tower, Fatal frame and eternal darkness. Dementium 1 and 2 are some pretty good silent hill esque ds horror games with 2 having a pc remake Not sure if it counts but Alan wake is pretty coolio (more of a psychological thriller though) Corpse party is pretty neato The outlast games are some of the better modern horror games released recently Siren is a bit fucking jank but still a pretty good horror game Rule of Rose is criminally underrated and definitely deserves a look Slightly cheating as it kind of counts under clock tower but Haunting Ground is great Saya no Uta is uh a thing maybe play but it's kinda fucked up The Echo night games are both pretty good if a bit jank Call of Cthullu is really good but good luck getting it to work without exploding Yume Nikki is a classic First winter is a pretty great short horror game IMSCARED Is a fantastic horror game that kinda fucked with me for a bit The F.E.A.R. games are pretty good mixes between really fun fps's and horror (though 3 is a bit eh)

The issue with a good chunk of these is that I feel like they'd require a bigger time investment than I can spare, or they're a game I already have on my radar and want to give a longer video. Saya no Uta seems interesting and I'll probably play it even if October passes, First Winter seems like it'd kill me but I might try it, and F.E.A.R. is something I've always wanted to play. Those three seem like the easiest bets.
