Too funny, Darren! I was actually quite surprised when I first heard of the Johari Window! 😂 I was in a DISC Behavioral course and when I first heard the term Johari I began to wonder if it had something to do with the highly trained elite Samurai soldiers! Ha! I actually struggled with the four windows and had to refer to outside sources to gain a better understanding. I really appreciate your outline of the Johari window! You make it sound so much easier than course materials. The Johari Window has helped me to better understand why and how people communicate and operate the way they do. I’m not as easily offended by certain behaviors because I realize that my way or my mindset and style of communication is not everyone else’s. Such a great topic and wonderful delivery. Thank you, Darren! 😊

Yes I would like more info on how to discern if the communication problem is me or them! It’s probably both unless dealing with a narcissist. I need to slice these ideas a little thinner. Another listener stated my question much more intelligently.

I love your videos so much! My ex has been adding your videos to a playlist that he desperately wants me to see (even though he has never sent them, or the playlist, to me, or tagged me in it), but he is the narcissist. He is in terrible denial, and he is accusing ME of being the narcissist. How backwards their small minds are!

There is a lot to think about here. I'd never heard of Johari's mirror either. When you were describing it, that Robert Burns poem came to mind: "O wad some Pow'r the giftie gie us To see oursels as ithers see us! It wad frae mony a blunder free us, An' foolish notion: What airs in dress an' gait wad lea'e us, An' ev'n devotion!

About oversharing: I am learning that just because a person asks you a really nosy question, doesn't mean they deserve an answer. Example: I was close friends with a person at work. It was known by other co workers that we did things together outside of work. It wasn't a romance, just two female friends. She is married; I'm not. One of the most inappropriate people we work with, (who doesn't get along with my friend) asked me out of the blue one day, "Does she have affairs?" Instead of showing her my shock, which I SHOULD have let show, I answered honestly, that I didn't think she was the type to have affairs. I wish I'd answered instead, "If I knew that, why would I talk about it to YOU behind her back!!!!???? Within ten minutes I realized I should have let her know of my shock.

It took me years, but my standard response to most questions now is, "Why do you ask?"
@notagain779 Жыл бұрын
@@josiah5776, Yes! That's good to remember. In fact, where I worked a lot of the other employees did reply to her nosy questions this way. At the time, I thought, gee, these co-workers of mine aren't very friendly. I slowly learned why they felt they needed to be careful around that person. My boss said to me, "Be very careful what you reveal to her in conversation."

@@notagain779 Asking "Why do you want to know?" has been a game changer for me in dealing with these types of people. 90% never go past that, being unable to coherently explain why they want to know. For the 10% who do, I usually just nod and walk away, not answering their question. Of course, it has also branded me as a "difficult person."
