"because if I don't read a book written by a woman in the next 5 minutes, my brain is muddled to soup" what a mood 😂😂😂
@matthewbates9629

How is that a mood how are men writers different from women writers please explain that to me
@paperpidge8374
@paperpidge8374 Жыл бұрын
@@matthewbates9629 I feel you might be just looking for an argument and not being sincere about this reply but I'm gonna reply sincerely anyway just in case. For me, women's writing perspective feels more relatable. Like the term "female gaze". Being a woman, I might be more likely to share a baseline perspective. This varies but it's usually noticible, to me at least. Also, sometimes reading men's descriptions of women gives me the ick. They often reduce the women characters in their writing and can have uncomfortable physical descriptions that they focus on way too much. (and that's coming from someone who thinks women are attractive too) for examples, look up "men writing women". Of course this kind of thing varies from author to author and different readers have different tolerance for it & preferences.
@matthewbates9629

But that’s what I’m getting at I read the entire Artemis fowl book series that had a female character who was pretty badass and she was written by a man it doesn’t matter which gender writes the character as long as the character is written well
@paperpidge8374
@paperpidge8374 Жыл бұрын
@@matthewbates9629 Okay. I understand what you're saying. I think that's also true, and it really depends on what the book, author, and preferences are. I'm just answering your question with my own experience though. When a woman says something like "i need to write a book written by a woman" they probably want a higher likelihood of being able to relate to the writing. It's also likely that different details stand out to you. Maybe something that wouldn't stand out to others might stand out if you want that degree of relatability. Here's an example. I've seen the book 'Project Hail Mary' recommended many many times. I liked the premise and eventually ended up reading it. I thought the writing was good and enjoyed the story overall, but the way the author wrote his female characters was really annoying to me. They were really one-dimensional and felt like accessories.This is an example of a book that was written well, but I still felt annoyed by the end of the book and wanted to read something with a female perspective afterward. However, many people didn't notice or have the issues with it that I did. And that's fine! Again, not saying that this is a hard and fast rule, and men can definitely still write good women characters.

Same thing goes for Harry Potter is he a badly written character or do people don’t know he’s a character who’s been abused by his aunt and uncle and is letting everything out in order of the phoenix he’s not as bad as the antagonist of his book series why do people see him as a bad character his friends ignored him the only friends he had mind you so he deserves to let off some steam he bottled everything up and finally exploded One person can’t handle the crap he went through he’s seen seven people SEVEN die right in front of him that’s a lot of trauma for a person to go through let alone a 17 year old

A 55 min long video?! I LOVE IT! Thanks for representing people who get way too scared reading books that aren’t even all that scary, I feel so seen. 😌 But I added The Girl with All The Gifts to my TBR anyways, because you made it look like the reading experience will be worth it. 👀 This week, I only managed to read one graphic novel (exam season is hitting hard 🙃), but one that I feel might be right up your alley: Sixty Years in Winter by Ingrid Chabbert! The protagonist is a 60 year old woman (weren’t you asking for books that center old female protagonists in one of your recent videos?), the art style is incredible and it discusses themes of queerness and found family. I’ve been a patreon member for over a year and a subscriber way longer, but I can only agree with what the other comments are saying as well: please take a break if you need it! 💗
