I loved your video. Some of the other comments and reviews on other videos were very negative. I agree with you that this one is easily obtainable and affordable. I never thought I needed a winder, but when I crochet, I’ve always hand rolled into a ball. I’ll be rolling all yarn that I have. I’ll be getting one of these! Thanks a bunch! In one of the other videos I watched, she holds the tension yarn parallel (off the table) with the winder. Marjielous Creations, if you don’t mind my mentioning.

I have rolled the yarn wrapper tightly and slipping it into the center of the newly wound ball so you will remember what it is! I also use the (little) girls hair snap clips to snap/hold my ends in place. The smaller clips are light so they don't pull the yarn loose! Thanks for a great tutorial!!

You looked like you were having a wow of a time winding those cakes. It doesn't take that long really, like a few minutes! I haven't used mine yet because I thought it would take ages to wind up. I don't know why I thought it would take so long. Anyway, your review has enlightened me to the joys of ball winding. It looks like great fun too.....Thanks!

I think I got a defective one of these, I found this video because I am having a heck of a time with it. Mine feels like I'm trying to crank a bike chain off the track or something...even when there is nothing on it its not smooth like yours. Hopefully I can just exchange it out!

I have this ball wonder and use it a lot here lately the only problem I see is that certain times that handle seems to get stuck and also some of the yarn goes in between the Gear towards the back and gets Tangled Up are there any suggestions on how to keep this from happening

Hi, how are you? I have attended center pulling, center pulling tangles every so often after pulling the yarn. Is this outside pull only?

When I make yarn cakes I haven’t dealt with yarn getting tangled! You can pull the yarn in the inside…you can also pull the yarn on the outside as well…it’s just not as easier versus pulling the yarn in the inside.

I must have been doing something wrong when I tried this winder. Every cake would completely fall apart when I removed it from the winder, the middle just fell out of it. I ended up returning it and giving up on center pull cakes/balls. I think it's because you say to wind quickly when the winder instruxtions say to wind slowly. Idk, may have to save up and try it again someday but it was frustrating the first time I bought it.

Yes! I had followed the instructions & it DID NOT WORK! But as I kept practicing I found that winding the yarn faster with some tension- that was the way to go! Don’t give up! If ever you get another manual winder, keep practicing. As they say: practice makes perfect. Also, finding a speed that works!

I found that if I use both notches, put the end of the yarn facing forward, not backwards, in one notch and wrap it behind the platform, for lack of a better word, so the working yarn comes out the fron of the notch, as well as holding the yarn parallel to the machine from the eyelet the cakes come out practically perfect every time.

Makes me wonder if the one I got is defective because it doesn't want to wrap anywhere near the middle of the spool- only right at the end where the yarn just flies off. :/

Why are these yarn winders very wide for wrapping the yarn? Don't they make a slender version??

I wondered the exact same thing! That is probably just the way they decided to design their manual yarn winder. I do not know if they have a slender version! I’m sorry that I can help you with this. I’m sure other companies sell yarn winder’s that are more slender!

personally i did not find this video helpful, i understand everyone has their own way of doing things and that's fine but the tone presented was very condescending, as if to say "if you were doing it 'properly' and 'perfectly' you shouldn't be having problems" and looking down on how other people choose to use it. it also would have been more useful if the talking in the beginning was either shortened or at least got to the point faster instead of almost 5 mins of random talking. Sadly even the demo portion wasn't helpful because by time it finally got to that point the volume dropped way down so could barely hear you anyways.
