Ah, I can tell just from your profile pic you are someone who appreciates the ambience in games. The solitary atmosphere present in ODST's Mombasa Streets alongside Marty O'Donnell's sombre and beautiful soundtrack is unmatched. I spent many a rainy night walking home at 3am through a big yet desolate city listening to that soundtrack

Watching this almost hurts...29 now...wishing I could go back to my innocent life and childhood. Was so happy. This game was incredible. Its more than nostalgia...its the sadness of growing older and finding it harder to find that joy you once had a child is rough. I still play this game from time to time to bring that back. But it'll never be the same, with all the friends lost, new responsibilities, etc. All we can do is listen to this beautiful soundtrack and just be teleported back to a time of bliss.

I remember the first time I left the sewers in oblivion. It went from a dungeon crawler to a vast open world. When I realized the scale of what I was looking at I instantly fell in love. I saw the mountains in the distance and realized that I could actually walk all the way there if I wanted, I had never seen anything like it. I had played Zelda OOT and Fable TLC, and they were fantastic. But this was on a whole other level, it sucked me in and I lost myself in the world

I think if you want Bethesda to recapture or surpass your favourite games, you're looking at things the wrong way. For example, Skyrim was the game that I grew up with, and I doubt Bethesda will ever make a game that I, or many people, will like as much as Skyrim, however, that doesn't mean they can't do something different that is great in its own way.

Official *'My very first hour after leaving the sewers'* thread: It was sunrise outside. After messing with the settings for 15 minutes trying to claw back some framerate while standing on the jetty, the first thing I did was cross the river, poke around the ruins there, kill a mudcrab, run away from a bandit, and then I walked directly North up into the hills as night fell. My route went up a gully and past a cave with a door that some guy told me had a witch in it, and up towards the mountains. Halfway up the hill, where the ground started to turn into scrub and gravel, I turned around and, through a gap in the gently waving trees, saw the imperial city and was awestruck. Never forget sitting for 10 minutes and soaking up the crickets, music and whisper of breeze, while the moons tracked across the galaxy of stars above the imperial tower.

My first hour after leaving the sewers, I looked for another way into the imperial city that wasn't the main gate. Because I had chosen a thief as my starting class, and didn't know how the guard ai worked, I thought they might attack me, so I snuck in by the docks, got chased off the pirate ship, acquiring a bounty in the process, and ran all the way to the coast, following the river.

this game was magic. it did illicit some sort of deep, emotional, subconscious connection to those who played it through and through. a real masterpiece balance of music, environment, sounds, and details. ES has always been an amazing RPG series, but the oblivion team really took IV and shot it to the stars and beyond with incredible replay value. I try to understand like this: some things in life happen at a precise time, an interval in existence where if it happened just a moment later or earlier, it wouldn’t have had the same success.

no but they're fine in their own way videogames are a form of design, it can be argued that design is a form of art but a vast portion (the majority) of art critiques will disagree. It is a really fine experience, i love videogames, but i believe calling it art is insulting. The americans like to call all this stuff "art": game art for example, is not Art, its an illustration functional to a consumer product. Its revised by multiple people before being packaged and shipped. Being the result of a three dimensional simulation, it has to be contained within its boundaries (different "modules" that compose a 3d engine). Just from a pictorial approach, it is far inferior to a painting. Think of how LOD is treated in distance: things are scaled down, mixed with ambient color (the "fog" you see in the distance) and thats it. Compare this to a painting: two different worlds. I could digress even more but in the end what the heck am i doing, no one even asked me anything so ill let you all be

@@rdl8443 What are you waffling on about? You’re arguing that games aren’t art because of details like LOD? There are plenty of art galleries that have ‘art’ that is just paint thrown onto a canvas. Claude Monet’s paintings are just as blurry as the LOD in video games. Of course video games are art and imo they have many benefits over other art forms, being so much more detailed and expansive than any painting could ever be. I don’t agree with the OPs comment because I don’t think there is a best form of art, but claiming video games aren’t art is just snobbery. “I believe calling it art is insulting” hah. As soon as this video started I felt the emotions and got goosebumps-- it's sad that many laymen would write this off as "just a video game", when the soundtrack is truly a masterpiece in its own category. I'd gladly go and listen to a live performance of these scores from start to finish. Skyrim's soundtrack gets a lot of praise, but Oblivion's soundtrack is just in a league of its own. Skyrim's soundtrack borrows a lot from LOTR, but there's just nothing out there like Oblivion's.

Hey, if you ever want the chronic stomach pain to to away, do what I do, I had insane issues myself for years, but now I'm apart of this lifestyle called carnivore. Animal products only. Meat, eggs, grass fed butter, REAL cheeses, just protien. Cheat days on rare occasions and up to you but otherwise no carbs or sugars, no sauces that have either of those in them. It's not just a diet, it's a lifestyle. It changed my health and life.. don't you think you owe it to yourself to try it for even 3 months?

It is sad that your best days are behind you but sadder that your best days are this video game. Morrowind was the one I liked most so far. It had the best magic customization. They took levitation and super jumps from oblivion? That was the coolest way to get around. Fun magic weapons too, but it was never the same in Oblivion or Skyrim. Morrowind has the best books to pick up and read too

@@voidremovedoh trust me dude, i played a lot of morrowind and thats also in the center of nostalgia.. The main theme was the best one yet and one ting i missed in oblivion that morrowind had was all the really good random encounters and places to find.. u could look under a ruined bridge and u could find a door there for example. We need a remake of both.

I miss this, first time i got to know this game i was 7, my brother got the original cd copy, I thought it was some horror game cause of the first dungeon of the game, when you kill the rats. 3 years later i manage to play it and man, i fall in love with this franchise, especially this game, almost everyday i played, sometimes just walking, sometimes doing sidequests, i even drew the map with my favourite locations so i wouldn't forget. When this game came out, I was too poor to buy an Xbox 360 and I had to listen to this kid at lunch every day talk about Oblivion and all the amazing things you could do in it. He made up a bunch of lies including one where he said the world was infinite and you could run forever in any direction. It was the biggest jump in gaming at the time, google wasn't as accurate with its search results yet and I was just a naive middle schooler so I believed him. I never wanted to play a game so badly so I begged my dad to buy a 360 for me every day. He let me borrow his mower and told my nerdy ass to start mowing lawns. Of course this business venture was unsuccessful so I ended up using birthday money I saved to purchase one myself almost a year later and Oblivion was the first game I got. I had never played an open world game like Oblivion before and I was blown away by the freedom and the graphics. I didn't know how to even open the map or fast travel the first week I had it so I truly believed the game world was the same size as our own. That week stealing horses as a crazy lizard man and running so far I found the sea was one of the best gaming experiences I ever had in my life. I must have put thousands of hours into this game in total. My family wanted to burn the disc.

This game holds a special place in my heart and hearing this first track makes me tremble with emotion. My parents would constantly fight and being in a house of six, there was hardly a moment to even have a thought to yourself. I'd sneak on to my brothers Xbox and put this game in and load up one of his saves to just walk around, I didn't even know how to play the game but this gave me the chance to immerse myself into a peaceful realm for once. I credit this game to be my whole reason as why I even play games in the first place. I just redownloaded it and plan to mod it for a second playthrough as an adult. Ahhh how time has passed so swiftly, I miss my brother
