That's a rather selfish attitude. We must ask ourselves, would Diana have wanted to be Queen if it meant staying married to Charles? I think not. We should also remember that Diana was a kind and compassionate person. I believe if she were here today, she'd be quite distressed by people demanding that she is the "rightful" Queen, particularly when that is just factually untrue. One could argue she was a "victim" of the Firm as early as 1970 when she and Charles were first dating. The Queen Mother declared she was "unsuitable", having her sights for the future king set much higher. Hindsight, of course, shows Charles and Camilla should have been together from the start. The Crown Estate gives 100 percent of its income to the government and the government calculates 25 percent from that to give the royal household for the royals to conduct official duties. The Duchy of Lancaster and The Duchy of Cornwall estates provide private income for the royals. The only thing taxpayer funded is police security. And the taxpayers also pay for the security of politicians and diplomats based in the UK along with heads of state on official visit to the UK. The taxpayers would still have to pay for the security of a president. So it's not a royal exclusive privilege.
