tldr, but here ya go. It's a tricky reference to Fitzgerald hiding in plain sight, I think. Opinion of course. Basically, stoplights were invented when 'the great gatsby' was likely being written. So, with that context, it's about reaching for perfect hapiness and never finding it, which is also repeated almost verbatim in the song 'perfect places' (album opener, and album closer). In another context, it's about being upset with an ex-boyfriend. It's about going to get your things from his place, and just wanting it to be over, so, all you want to see is greenlights. It's about being given an oppurtunity. It's about growing up and learning how to deal with love and loss. Oh, and it's also about her synesthesia probably. She sees colors when she hears sounds, likely among other things, since that particular condition typically effects more than one of a person's senses. (names have taste and so on).
