The fact you was so enthusiastic with this record has got me so hype for your Melodrama reaction. Her next one takes everything (her mature songwriting, conceptualizing, epic production, infectious melodies, her fragile vocals and lush harmonies, quality control) to whole other level. Lorde went from already being one of the most promising new artists around to being the voice of a generation after it dropped. Out of the 1000 of albums I've heard, I truly see no flaws with that record. It's also pretty incredible that across two albums, every single track is like a 4/5 at least. I feel like she couldn't make an average song to save her life!

I was 18 and a freshman in college when this came out and it absolutely changed my life. The simplicity of what she was talking about, the nuanced small problems of teenage life. The fun dumb nights driving/chilling with my hometown friends. The loss of childlike innocence and the feeling that the world wasn’t going to be the same from here on out really stuck with me.
