Choose your tractor
Shall we put the little Ford 3000 or the John Deere 2130 under cover this winter ? We look at the work ahead this season to repair and service these tractors.
Will It Start ? Maybe...
How to get an old tractor running and give it a second chance.

That was just superb, the Ford amazed me by starting by itself without ether or having to set fire to it, the J.D. well, that was something else. I'm not a experienced or informed tractor driver / user, but I'd love to see a David Brown 990 sitting outside, we had an R reg 1977 one at work that we rebuilt the engine on. The old thing was a great starter, if there was enough in the battery to get over the first couple of lumps , she was away. When she was warm she had the sweetest tick over ever, it was like music to my ears, so steady and regular, I could have it idling for hours, soothing it was. We shifted some big stuff with that little tractor, we also used to use it to fill in pot holes in the yard. Old, cab knackered and sad looking, but what an engine!

In my feeble defense, I put down both a tractor and a truck. So I'll resubmit the tractor, 1958 JD 730 diesel, electric start, wide front. Being primarily a JD guy, I'm looking forward to both of these tractors. Been around a lot of 3000s, none of them diesel or with a cab. So that's cool. And, I've never seen a JD 2130. Must be a European thing? Thanks Lord Muck, for a timely Christmas distraction. Best regards from Indiana, USA.

Ford 3000 is a great tractor. I have a 1966 3000 with 4200 hours. Mine is an open station gas model. It starts right up and runs strong every year. I just plowed snow with it yesterday in Michigan. They are easy to work on and parts are readily available.

I think that moving both of them under cover is right, it saw them get weather protection. The winter grip, ice studded 'tyres' on the John Deere were clearly the right choice for what is coming our way. It would be good to see them get s work over to put their cabs and metal work in, how shall I put this tactfully, more weatherproof and boot-proof order. I can see a Happy New year coming into view.
