This update also includes a bunch of performance & crash fixes, co op stability fixes, rebalanced mob density, reworked boss encounters with new AI & movesets, inventory expansion, controller rebinding, appearance resets, and bunch of other QoL improvements. Actually the biggest update they've put out, the game is finally in a great state!

It is parallel switching with vastly more complex geometry and lighting, path finding, etc... getting decent performance with a single world is already tough as is, these devs just went full bonkers doing this with modern rendering, so as it stands, it is innovative in the current market. Holding the umbral light and creating a gate to see into the other world and blend the two seamlessly is impressive, but was it great for performance? Probably why it took a year of post launch updates to smooth out, but innovative in its approach nonetheless
