Aule is the most “human” of the Valar, with the most relatable personality and motivations. He connection with the world is something very tangible and also deeply emotional. He watches his crafting of Arda defiled by Morgoth, his students betray Eru, and even his children living with what we might call an uneasy relationship with the elves. Guilt, loss, and disappointment must consume him often. I get the feeling that Nienna is the empathetic and supportive type.

@@jefflabbecomedy The elves were created as Eru Iluvatar's unique song during the Ainulindalë (The music of the Ainur), which is the event that created the world. That is why the elves are the first children of Iluvatar. But they didn't instantly run around doing elf things as soon as they and the world was created, they slept until it was their time to awake as the first 144 elves. The dwarves were likely technically also created during the Song of the Ainur, but they weren't given life by Iluvatar until later. So both Men and Elves existed first as they were both intended creations of Iluvatar as the first and second children of Iluvatar during the creation of the world when the dwarves were merely constructs Aule shaped.

Ulmo for sure. Where Manwe always seems to be a character focused on big picture guidance and principles needed to rule, Ulmo always seems focused on the little things. Ulmo looked after the world in the dark times, valued freedom of Eru's children over knowledge, and recognized Melkor's evil instead of clinging to the principle of forgiveness.

Ulmo is the best Vala for his empathy for and tireless work in aid of the Men and the Elves, even when they were abandoned by the other Valar. Ulmo forgives your mistakes and actively seeks to help you, even when it's inconvenient to himself, even before you asked him to or searched for him - indeed when you're still officially unfriends. To me as a Christian, that's what a true deity is supposed to be and to do. The best Valie is Nienna. He foresees that taking the Elves to Valinor could mean trouble and he never forsakes Middle Earth. He maintains it while it was under Melkor's dominion, he helps the Eldar reach Valinor, he helps Turgon and Finrod and guides Tuor to Gondolin. Should have went with Egyptian mythology and Anubis for your Mandos comparison. Great videos though, love them!

If Tulkas came later to Arda, does that mean there are other Valar chilling with Eru Ilúvatar?
@NerdoftheRings3 жыл бұрын
If memory serves, they actually don't get the title "Valar" until after they descend into Arda. The maiar are just the lesser Ainur who accompany them. I don't think we are ever told how many chose to stay with Eru - or whether they were mighty as the valar, or lesser like the maiar.

@6:10 My understanding is that Hades isn't a permanent destination either, I think it was a way to reincarnate the soul into a new body in Greek mythology. Tartarus and Elysium were permanent iirc.
@dowsingelf772 жыл бұрын
Close, the Elysian Fields were the place where you got a shot at reincarnation as a reward for being good. The ones who managed to reincarnate and get the Elysian Fields three times get to go live on a special island of their own.

Tulkas is my absolute favorite! He kinda reminds me of Luffy of One Piece, a strong and swift warrior, slow to true anger and smiling and laughing in battle 😁
