I will comment what I think. First and foremost I like your content and have watched many of your videos now, thank you for producing them. As for stores with no cashiers and the dystopian future we are rocketing towards I will always cherish having grown up in America the way it used to be. I refuse to use self checkouts, or online retailers.

Love the Space Needle tour. Brings back memories. Remember the giant hole filled with concrete for ballast before the actual construction. Went to the top on the second day of fair. The observation area is where they displayed the first dollar bill vending machine. Thanks, again. Cities are run by mayors. Mayors are elected by the people of the city. If this is how Seattle chooses to live, good for them. One things for sure, it ain't the same city that Perry Como used to sing about.

Have lived in area since 1974, except for 16 year detour to DFW and Tyler :) As you pointed out, former Mayor Durkin condoned the CHOP, and abandoning the Police Station :( She was a piece of work indeed, and no consequences for her deleting all the Text messages around her fiasco :( New Mayor seems to be trying well to clean up even more and 1st Republican Mayor for a LONG time. Amazon is closing some of its Go stores as the experiment to put people out of work for convenience and profit, just like the Famous Starbux not wanting Unions to protect the workers :( Safe travels and ALL the BEST! I know a family of three, all of whom are employed by a major supermarket chain that depends on cashiers. I've also walked outside of my office only to see protests in front of McDonalds for higher wages, because they didn't feel the legal minimum wage was sufficient compensation for their unskilled labor. Meanwhile technology is exponentially growing. Unskilled labor jobs offering minimum wages have long been a starting point, and ONLY a starting point for people joining the workforce. Jobs will continue to be replaced with technology in ever greater numbers in ways we cannot yet imagine. For better or worse, unskilled labor will continue to have increasingly less value in the modern workforce. Disapproval of an inevitable process won't slow it down, and as time moves forward cognitive based skills will be the determining factor concerning who is, or is not, employed. Is it fair? No, but then neither is life.

@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip Let me add to the craziness. When you stepped off the elevator at the Space Needle there was an older lady in a black and white print shirt carrying a coral sweater. "OMG, that's Judy," I said right out loud. I have her and her husbands picture on my mantle. I haven't seen her since she passed away. Yes, that's right, this has to be a doppelganger. I have sent this out to my family because it's amazing. Although . . . I must admit that shopping for others would be Judy's idea of heaven. I still can't get over that lady!!!!

@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip It's too much like the mark of the beast for me. But there's nothing anyone can do as we will have a cashless society very soon. You will own nothing and be happy. Look up Agenda 21. The globalists don't want us to own land and want/will herd everyone into the cities where there will be everything you need. Work, play and shop. No cars eventually, except for deliveries. You'll live in a stak&pak apt less thn 1,000Square feet, depending on how much money is in your account. Travel by public transportation, bicycle or walk. One of these days it will be too hard to buy land and build and they'll stop maintaing rural areas and roads. The sad thing is everything they do is presented to the public in a way that sounds so good so people really want it. If "smart" is attatched to the product you should NOT buy it. They have kids brainwashed at such an early age now too. Programs like Head Start. Anything funded by the government one should avoid. It will kick your arse in the end. Like I said...look up Agenda 21.

No the term "Autonomous Zone" is a term used by neo-anarchist. The vast majority of the neo-anachist weren't from Seattle. This is why CHAZ was rejected for CHOP by BLM activist. The neo-anarchist attempted to control the area and this led to to all the crap that went down. Want to blame someone, blame white people from the suburbs dressed in black pretending to be revolutionaries.

They already have laws. The police arrest them if they have enough police to even do that. A lot of times it's just a ticket. They throw it away and don't pay. If they get a court date they either don't go or the judge doesn't do anything and they're back out just that quick. Nothing seems to get enforced. Need to get rid of libtard governor Jay Inslee too. People claim mental health issues and it's not against the law to be crazy. This is so stupid and disgusting. People do whatever they want now days. Violent crimes have skyrocketed in Seattle all the way up to Everett and beyond. North, south, east and west. Time to get a weapon and ammo and learn how to use it.

The German in Venice channel has made this point before as well. l dont think its mentioned enough. lts a 107 degrees in Dallas Tx today. l guarantee if you gave all the homeless by me in Sparkman a bus ticket to San Jose California or Seattle they'd be gone.

I have lived in Seattle for 25 years, including 10 years (1999-2009) on Capitol Hill. There's no denying that the areas you showed were awful. I will say that the area looks better since the time you shot this video, and that the street where you felt unsafe at 11:00 is a block away from my church. I'm in and out of the QFC supermarket almost every Sunday after the service. I've never felt unsafe in the neighborhood, but I can understand how a visitor could. Unfortunately, the images of Seattle, Portland and San Francisco have been politicized by some as a way of convincing others that cities run by Democrats or progressives (not necessarily the same thing) are dystopian hellholes. But I've seen your other videos of run down third world cities and towns in red states and think that poverty in America has less to do with the party affiliation of local leaders and more to do with our lack of political will to do anything to help those less fortunate. Americans think that if one is suffering it's because they are lazy or have done something wrong or (OMG!) that God is somehow punishing them, and any help they receive including, incredibly, raising the minimum wage so they can actually earn their way out of poverty through honest work just enables them. If only Seattle really was run by progressives who actually want to do something about the problem by providing affordable housing, drug rehab centers and mental health facilities that these people need. Seattle unfortunately was hit by a perfect storm in 2020, and I suspect the same was true for other West Coast cities. Housing costs started to skyrocket in the early 2010s with no end in sight. There are a lot of high paying jobs at Amazon, among other employers. Developers started building high end apartments and condos for these high paid workers and basically stopped building anything affordable to the average person. High rents = more homelessness; that is not rocket science. But then the pandemic came. Retail, restaurant and other workers downtown lost their jobs during the lockdown. I am lucky enough to have been able to work from home, but I was not coming downtown to my job any more. Businesses that relied on office drones like me to buy lunch or pick up a few things at Bartell Drugs or maybe do a little shopping at Westlake before going home lost their customers. Downtown was abandoned by everyone other than those who had no other place to go; i.e. the homeless. This reinforced the idea that downtown was a scary place for the non-homeless which kept people away even more. Finally, there was the killing of George Floyd in May 2020. A lot of the racial violence in the 1960s and, of course, the riots in Los Angeles after the beating of Rodney King in the 1990s were triggered by police violence against people of color. Whatever you think of how to appropriately respond to police violence, this is how people are going to respond. Seattle was certainly not alone in the nationwide demonstrations, but the Autonomous Zone, as far as I know, was unique to this city. You are correct that it did not end well, and a lot of us had many different feelings about it. Police violence should never, ever, be tolerated. The do not have the authority to be judge, jury and executioner in a country where one is considered innocent until proven guilty and non-violent protests, such as those led by Dr King many years ago, are a good way of holding police accountable when they go on a power trip. But yes, the Capitol Hill protests obviously got out of hand. Even friends I have who live in the former CHOP and supported the goals of the protest said it really got annoying after a while. But it's not a black and white issue. A lot of positive things in this country have happened because of organized protest. I will always be on the side of those who try to make life better for those who historically have not been treated well. But enough about politics... As for the Amazon Go stores, I share your mistrust and never use them. Besides destroying jobs, it's too gimmicky in my opinion. Interestingly, on the second floor of that QFC on Pike Street there's a place that sells fried chicken. I went in there once and there was a guy behind the counter to cook the food, but instead of just simply telling him what I would like, having him cook it, and paying for it they required me to scan a QR code, download the food choices, and place my order on line even though I was right there. Sorry, I don't play that. I stopped at Ezell's (best chicken in town!) in the U District on the way home instead. Just let me order off a f***ing menu. Glad you enjoyed the Space Needle. I've only been there when I was out here in 1997 while interviewing for the job that caused me to move here, or when hosting relatives from out of town. But it's still an amazing structure that proudly symbolizes our city and we Seattleites love it. Thank you for sharing a video that neither sugarcoats Seattle's problems nor dismisses the city as completely beyond hope. I hope the next time you visit you will have a more positive experience. Seattle really is a great city - come back any time! In the meantime, I'm really enjoying your videos. You are inspiring me in my own road trips to visit places I would never otherwise have heard of!
