You can tell Lorelai is in pain over not being able to get over the guy from her past who’s hurt her a lot and not being in love with the man who’s trying to make up for the pain he’s out her through. I don’t like Christopher whatsoever but he did grow a lot, but I just never understood how they could be so understanding and forgiving of him barely being involved for 16 years and coming back every once in awhile thinking he still deserves a place in their lives.

Right? It was as if 'as soon as Chris gets his life right then we will all be together and skip and eat ice cream'. Clearly Lorelai had to date Christopher at some point during the show’s run. I think it would have been better had they dated properly and for longer earlier on, maybe around seasons 2-3, before eventually breaking up. Lorelai’s friendship with Luke, could have caused some strain there. Slowly breaking up Lorelai and Luke in season 6, so that she could date and then break up with Christopher in a rushed way within a few episodes in season 7, before the eventual reconciliation with Luke again, felt like a complete waste.

it's important to note that The show writers were losing more and more power over the direction of the show because of network slowly pushing them out. thats why the last season is so strange.. the last 2 seasons so much was going on behind the seasons that really hurt the show.
@armanhammer183 жыл бұрын
Omg I am a huge fan of GG and I never thought about this theory. Yes, it would’ve made more sense for them to date earlier on. The writers decided to get Sherry pregnant and so we lost that opportunity early on. Season 4 could’ve had them dating instead of introducing Jason. Or they should’ve gotten together after Luke & Lorelai’s first breakup in season 5. They probably did this in season 7 with the hopes of getting renewed for a season 8. At the time, s7 was airing on the cw which had just been created the previous year so I’m sure they were trying to stretch the storyline but ultimately failed.
@mikeprussock6073 Жыл бұрын
@@armanhammer18 I still think Lorelai disrespected Luke that entire series. She flouted his no cellphone policy. She constantly used to many tables so that other customers couldn't use them. You don't disrespect someone's business like she did. And you could tell he wss getting tired of it himself. And it was ok for Lorelai to be in a relationship but she didn't want Luke to be in one. And I don't buy that Lorelai had to marry Christopher and put Luke through hell to finally realize Christopher wasn't right for her. Christopher said it himself. He should have known it took him 20 years to finally say yes to them getting married. I think Lorelai was to emotionally immature to be in a relationship with Luke. And there were to many red flags for Luke not to get romantically involved with Lorelai. She failed to show up to help him paint the diner in season one. And she lied to him and hid things from him before they even got into a relationship. I know Luke totally did that whole April thing wrong. But I still believe Anna sent April into Luke's Diner to set him up. Because it was mentioned that Anna was involved with 3 different men when April was conceived. How come we never saw the other two men only pictures. It was just assumed Luke was the father. And how come Anna was never mentioned anywhere in that series until they knew the series was coming to an end. The only reason April was brought into it was because there wasn't enough time left for Luke and Lorelai to have a child together so she was brought into it to break up Luke and Lorelai. And why try so hard to get Luke and Lorelai together and try so hard to break them up. They weren't even together for very long before They broke them up the first time. It never made any sense to split them up If They wanted them two to be each other's endgame. That whole series never made any sense.

Chris is not a bad guy. I forgot this scene and I'm glad I've been able to rewatch it. Fandom's can be so bipartisan about ships which I understand but I don't think it's fair Chris is painted as a villain. He does love Lorelai, but 1. Lorelai isn't in love with him in the same way, just the idea of him, and 2. He can't show that love in a healthy way. It's right they're not together at the end. But he does love both Lorelai and Rory, and as proven by how gracefully he handled this and how he took responsibility for pushing Lorelai, he does self reflect and ultimately want the best for them deep down.
@crishill49084 жыл бұрын
@@crcr-km8je to be fair I think he did actually take responsibility for his part in this scene, he recognised he pushed Lorelai into marriage so that he felt comfortable/secure, not because he actually wanted to be married, and she recognised he was essentially a huge rebound in the aftermath of Luke, and she didn't want to be married either. You're definitely right that they're both immature af and have big problems communicating, and tbf Lorelai's had this problem in every relationship she's been in. But Chris definitely has this problem too. However (and I know this might be an unpopular opinion) I still think he's a better guy than Luke, I feel like I see Chris reflect and communicate more than we see Luke do. Both most of the characters on GG are selfish and have problems with maturity and communication :)
@crishill49084 жыл бұрын
@@crcr-km8je no need to apologise, I appreciate your perspective! It's definitely a read of his character I didn't personally experience so it's insightful in gaining understanding on why so many people love him, and reading what you got from watching him I understand why you do too. We can definitely agree that the classism he faced from many in Lorelai's circle was awful and completely undeserved, and he definitely was there for Rory too albeit in a kind of emotionally distant way but, given him and Lorelai weren't involved until she was an adult and he wasn't Rory's Dad, this makes sense and is actually doing a lot more than he needed to considering they weren't at all related. And I agree he did go out of his way to help the people he cared about. He definitely has good qualities. But I also find him to be intolerant, closed off, dismissive, petty, surly and occasionally aggressive to the point of it looking cruel? Part of what makes GG such an interesting show is the way these characters are layered and I don't think there are any outright heroes/good people (ok that's a lie Lane is and I love her and I wish she had a better ending on the show), and there aren't any outright villains either, all of them have pros and cons, but what can make the show frustrating is not seeing them learn, grow and change. I feel like when the show ended and even in the revival, Lorelai still had a lot of growing and changing to do that we don't get to personally see, and Luke does too (although I think the show tried with introducing April). Based on how I read the show, I actually felt I saw more character growth from Christopher than Luke, that may be a benefit to him being a secondary character so we don't have to spend as much screen time giving him an arc, but I felt Luke still had a lot of growing to do when the show & revival ended that we didn't get to see. Just my perspective though! :)

I don't think Chris is a villain in terms of his relationship with Lorelai. He's just not the right guy. However, in the area of being Rory's father he certainly is a villain. He was never around he never bothered. And even in a few seasons when he did start coming around occasionally it never last long. And even when he was there he's mostly busy with Lorelai and not Rory. Look at when he came to Sookie's wedding. He's with Lorelai during the entire engagement part, all night the night before, and then at the reception/party before the wedding. We see him talk to Rory once but that's about him and Lorelai's relationship. Granted it has an impact on Rory because of the possibility of them all being a family but it's like without Lorelai he'd have no reason to interact with Rory at all.

@crishill49084 жыл бұрын
@@loveGG3 I've been thinking about this and I have to respectfully disagree! The thing with Chris is I don't think he knows HOW to be a Dad to Rory. With Gigi he's been there since the beginning, he knows her, he knows how to be a Dad to her. Because Lorelai and Chris were so young when they had Rory he wasn't there, which I don't think makes him a villain but a kid. He just didn't know how to do any better. When he was finally coming into a place as an adult where he could provide that for Rory and Lorelai, he finds out about Gigi. Understandably, as Rory is nearly an adult at this point, he figures he doesn't want to repeat his mistakes and leave another little kid without a present Dad, so he steps in (during what is admittedly the absolute worst timing in the world at Sookie's wedding). As the years go by and Rory and Lorelai and Chris get older, there are several points where Lorelai and Rory have an opportunity to communicate with Chris so he can actually get to know them better, particularly Rory. Finding out Lorelai and Chris got married was a perfect moment for both of them to talk honestly to Chris about how Rory was really feeling; she chose not to. I think Chris gets blamed a lot for not understanding Rory, and there is SOME validity to that although again, he missed Rory's formative years because he himself was a child and didn't know better, but especially as Rory get's older I don't think it's fair to just put it down to Chris, because someone can only get to know you as far as you're willing to let them in. Rory never really let's Chris in. So how is Chris meant to know he's letting her down when all Lorelai and Rory really communicate with him is that they're fine whether he's there or not? This is what I mean where I don't think there are any outright villains here, I understand all their thinking completely, and I think they're all just trying to do the right thing but are misguided at points.

It's true they rushed into this marriage - they had not discussed the mundane but critical things like where they were going to live, etc. So instead of being united in a plan, they fell into old patterns. I am less sympathetic to Christopher given he has a child, which should have been something he considered before eloping - he is simply still not able to put his children's concerns before his own wants. Perhaps Lorelai is at a point in her life where she's ready to put herself first after raising Rory to independence - but she also should have known better than to be impetuous. Nevertheless, they could have worked to make the marriage successful - probably moved out of SH for a fresh start, but they both gave up on moving forward and putting in the work. I'm not sure either one of them will ever be able to embrace that marriage is also about putting another person's concerns at least equal to your own. Marriage is work even in the best of times.

Also I always thought that Lorelai ending up with Christopher, the man who she was theoretically ‘supposed to’ end up with according to Emily and Richard (Emily in-particular despite admitting that she didn’t even like him much), with his Hayden name and background and him coming from ‘their world’, would have been so boring and so anti-climatic. 7 seasons with all that drama, the fascinating dynamic between Emily and Lorelai and evolution of their relationship, only for Lorelai to end up with the guy from the world that she previously wanted to escape, who Emily and Richard wanted her to marry after getting pregnant with his child at 16? Big yawn. Her ending up with her a more ‘blue collar’ (absolutely nothing wrong with that of course) guy like Luke from her Stars Hollow world, far removed from that upper class world of Emily and Richard and also Christopher which she felt could be suffocating, with Emily in-particular being forced to deal with her snobbishness and outdated view of social status and eventually accept him, was a far better and more interesting storyline.

I think it's because Christopher seems perfect for her "on paper". A bit of a bad boy, similar sense of humor, and he loves her. She would love to end up with her first love.
