The chromaticism is a reference to the main boss being based or orobouros, a serpent eating its own tail, a loop and symbol of the infinite and also the apocalypse. Other bits reference the title screen, the main battle, the victory fanfare, the minibosses, the character themes (folk for the shepherd boy, accordion for the mysterious amnesiac playboy, violin for the priestess, and the soprano saxophone for the plucky and brash girl)

The character themes are some of the best songs in the game. I've shown a few people nothing but each party member's character art, and their character theme, and people generally get a _very_ good guess of how their characters are. Edea's in particular I just adore. She's headstrong, idealistic, and rearing to go. The soprano saxaphone going full 70's sitcom mode captures her _perfectly._

That's interesting! Your interpretation of the four part medley in the second act is surprisingly morbid, but I do get where you're coming from. I suppose if you don't have prior knowledge of the game's plot and just comes in dry with the knowledge that this is a boss theme, you'd have some apprehension because this is the boss' theme after all, and the boss must be malicious to some extent. I totally get the suspicion of the sudden mellow tones being some kind of a crooked dream and the analogy to it being a twisted circus music because it changes lead instruments so fast. You might already looked it up by now but the medley is actually a highlight of the four main character's theme and it's supposed to make the second act sounds like some hopeful breakthrough. It's always nice to get some fresh perspective from a first viewer of a piece you like.

"Eating the ground" sounds way less tense than "devouring the horizon". I'm guessing the first is the literal translation and the latter the "more poetic" version used for the English OST (or at least the one I have).

地平 is the word in particular. The morphemes mean "place"/"land" and the other one means "flat." ち‐へい【地平】 〘名〙 ❶ なだらかな大地の広がり。大地の平面。 「━の果て」 ❷ 「地平線」の略。→地平線 1. Roughly translates to "Plane of the Earth" or "Earth Plane" 2. translates to "contraction for Horizon" First one actually sounds cooler, "The snake that eats the Earth Plane," but "earth plane" becomes "Ground" for most video game translators, because earth element, and keep in mind that this game comes from the same company that produces Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy (Flying Fairy is a hint to that, in addition to the other hint within the title, hence why the Fs were red, since this series takes basically everything from Final Fantasy and then adds the new Brave and Default elements to it). You could say this is how they reconcile the desire for classic final fantasy games while keeping with their new 3d. ARPG style of final fantasy.

Interesting history of Bravely Default. The first game (the 3rd is coming out in a few months) began as and essentially is the sequel to Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light. Sorry I’m late, but I would like to answer your questions a bit (keep in mind, this is final final boss spoilers for the game): The song does indeed take place during a multi phase boss, with dialogue and scenes woven throughout that tell a greater story. The music is blended nearly flawlessly with the journey of the fight itself. The boss starts out as a powerful intimidating force, and as you start to damage it, it begins to heal itself by consuming realities. It is doing so in order to strengthen itself enough to break through to the reality of the creators and consume it. So it starts as an intimidating boss theme, then shifts into the heavier metal aspects as alternate realities are consumed. While he eats these realities, the boss mocks your party, trying to break their spirit. Then, the boss is blocked from consuming a world, by the collective strength of the alternate version of your party from that alternate world, who are revealed right as the music shifts into the triumphant phase of the party themes. And finally their is the last fanfare as the boss breaks through to the reality of the creators, and the background rips open to reveal the image taken from your 3DS camera, literally showing that we are the creators and he is trying to reach and consume us. Each of the different loops is set to a fitting moment in the story of the final boss, and it shifts through them flawlessly as the fight goes on. This music just lands with so much meaning when you’re playing it through in the actual battle in game. The story of the fight is told perfectly through the music. One of the all time best boss themes in gaming.

The problem with analyzing this song is that without the greater, broader context is lost without hearing the rest of the soundtrack and knowing the story. This song, as well as the rest of it's sound track, gains it's popularity primarily from the constant thematic elements and lieimotives involved to tell a story, not unlike movie sound tracks like that of Star Wars or the game Undertale. It's obvious from the comments that certain game soundtracks like this one are hard to evaluate purely from a composer perspective. It's not a comment on you or your review nearly as much as a lament that you just don't understand where this was going. The band, from doing some research, has a habit of this. To quote wikipedia on them (and thus their MO): Sound Horizon is a Japanese musical group with composer Revo [ja] (Japanese pronunciation: [ɾebo]) as the leader and only permanent member. They describe themselves as a "fantasy band" and have released works that closely resemble classical suites. Their songs often revolve around historical events and classic fairytales. When creating music based on other people's stories, the band uses the name Linked Horizon. EDIT: And yes, it's a boss battle, and not just any boss battle, but the final boss battle. The parts represent the overall struggle of the characters against a being that is the ultimate evil of the universe: destruction incarnate.

I’d love it if you could react to the song Zero from Ace Combat Zero. One of my personal favorite final boss tracks and very epic IMO.

Hello, to start I am french so excuse my english! I just discovered your reaction videos and I loved it! I have it all watch! Have you ever played God of war? Could you react to Brothers of blood from God of war 3? (even though I know my request went unnoticed!)

I suggest you to take on Path of Exile soundtrack. It has some serious epic tracks like the theme of Izaro, the labyrinth exterior or High Templar Avarius theme. Really worth listening.
