well there was an answer there, just that it's a really bad one: "Invincible skin". I don't care how badass the skin is, it won't resist a portal closing over it. Mainly because there's nothing to resist: you've got a side here and a side in another part of the universe. If whatever it is that is holding the "door" open suddenly gets shut down, the energy holding this wormhole open will disappear, wormhole collapses, 2 sides of the universe are no longer connected. It's not like you're slamming an actual door on someone's arm.

Volante Jones from a story telling point, sure it was the only way for the story to continue correctly, but from a theoretical standing technically killing thanos with a ring teleport would do just fine. Thanos would have lost (obviously) Thor would have defeated the army’s on earth and everyone would live happily ever after. Thor takes the gauntlet to nevadalir to destroy it. With the help of the guardians and stanges teleport abilities return the stones. The only other detail would be someone snapping back everyone that thanos killed. It’s just, out of 14 million possibilities this just seems like it would be pulled of without a hitch. The “only way” phrase is a plot hole protector developed by the writers so the way they wrote it technically can’t be questioned. Speaking of plot holes - they returned everything back to 2014 in its rightful places right. Well what about thanos. He never went back. Nor did nebula or gamora. I’m not to up to date on exactly what happened at which time but a lot of things never would have happened. We saw in guardians of the galaxy 2 ego found star lord, maybe he would entrap him. Maybe not, but now with the “plot holes” they now have endless writing material, because they simply can say oh this happened because that didn’t happen. They also can just ignore these facts and leave a massive plot hole. Most of endgame was time travel, and besides their main objective, not creating multiple realities was another. Everything had to be put back exactly where it left. Now without these there’s just to big of a possibility that it messed things up, and again if ignored... GIANT PLOT HOLE.

He could've seen even more if he wasn't interrupted since there could be an infinite amount of outcomes, but was only able to see that one out of 14 million And with Thanos not returning to 2014, that's just another branch universe that was created since War Machine and Nebula interfered with that timeline. Since that new branch universe was made, it won't interfere with the 2023 Avenger's home universe or timeline

Deondre Dixon no she states that the time stone is later used to save the earth(dormamu) If it was not returned they couldn’t save their earth, causing a different reality to be formed where the time stone wasn’t there to save them. This same aspect would apply. Especially to thanos. Most of the mcu was set up and formed around thanos being the one who always was behind something. Without him a lot of things wouldn’t have happened. Let’s say for instance, that thanos was never there to stop Thor from making it to earth with all the asgardians, Thor would have never gotten stormbreaker, Loki wouldn’t die, hulk would still be hulk. Without thanos a lot of plots and story arcs would have never happened. Same aspect applies to thanos as the stones. Let’s just say, you normally would have had a car crash that led to several peoples deaths, yet if you were never there, that crash wouldn’t have happened. Now let’s take the stones, if they weren’t put back, dormamu would have won. If thanos wasn’t put back, a lot of things wouldn’t have happened.

Trathien that’s not the point. The point is that if Thanos is so OP and if Dr Strange can put entities in time loops, why didn’t he try that with Thanos? Now listen, I understand that that may not work for whatever reason, but it’s just never shown to us or explained. It’s the same problem with not cutting the gauntlet off with the sling ring; why didn’t he even try? It’s just so blatantly obvious that I think it’s silly that we as an audience don’t get to see how those things fail. Catchy Slogo there's actually something similar to that already in the comics called Uru Armor, which is just the Bleeding Edge with powers that make no sense for Stark to have lol aside from the usual laser beam called the Unibeam, it's capable of time travel and (possibly) time manipulation. It's made from the same metal as Mjolnir and Stormbreaker, so now that people are theorizing that they'll go through time in Endgame, Uru armor *may* show up. Still, doubtful with the Pym particle around and Nidavellir being out of commission

Better question: what is the real reason strange didn't use time stone on thanos in infinity war? Edit: Yes, a time loop would have not done much. But that's not really using it ON thanos, but onto Strange or everything else except thanos. But if the time stone was used to make Thanos a baby without knowledge of anything (while he is an Eternal and technically immortal in aging, he can't have been the same when he was born a 1000 years ago, so basically a baby), he wouldn't stand a chance. The time stone could also do the effect on just Thanos, effectively disarming him, but gauntlet might also work in disarming if it tries to go back in time to the location it was in. Both situations wouldn't alter the other infinity stones if they are resistant to time change. While infinity stones do enhance tremendously the senses of the user, esspecially the reality stone in this case, because Thanos didn't have mind stone or the time stone which Strange was holding, I don't think he could have easily predicted what they would do. Although Thanos could have already easily killed the Avengers on Titan, he didn't when Strange would have started using the time stone on him/the gauntlet.

But the power of the dimension (dimensions are where the sling ring gets its power)(dimensions are also civilizations in MCU) was not strong enough to separate Thanos’ arm. Thanos is a titan. He can beat Hulk in hand to hand combat. The magic DR Strange gas is only as strong as the dimensions he’s pulling the magic from. In the Comics the original Dr Strange would’ve been able to mess Thanos up without help. But in the MCU the power on comes from the two dimensions he is connecting. Meaning he is stronger than those two dimensions. The ax cut him in half was made of god metal. That’s why it was able to cut. It was a conduit of Thor’s godly power and stronger than (hardness and conductive wise) than Thanos skin and all other regular non god metal weapons. Tony’s armor is a combination of Pims particle. Realms are like countries on earth. they have been claimed by a race of people for multiple milenia (thousands of years) and have their own laws of space and planets. Midgard contains 4 galaxies including the milky way (us). Beyond the 9 realms is like the sea. Unclaimed land. Vast and infinite unclaimed land. There are also laws set in place in case a race tries to claim the unclaimed land and/or disturb life there. For example, because the galaxies are moving closer together in the marvel universe, aliens in unclaimed land may be found and a new realm would be formed to accommodate for it. Realms have nothing to do with how the sling ring works. It links two places of different space and time together. Strange could chop Thanos' arm of, but thanos expected it so strange chose to play the long game instead. He wanted to make sure that they won instead of taking a gamble on whether thanos would expect it in this timeline or not. This was revealed in an interview with mark ruffalow (The Hulk/Bruce banner).

I would think the reason to be that even if they killed off the current Thanos, someone will continue his work. Perhaps Dr Strange needed Thanos to win in order to have him destroy the stones, then the avengers go back to the past to get the stones, revive everyone, then return all stones to each timeline. Pretty sure Dr strange wasnt holding back. Thanos was threatening to erase half the universe he has no reason to hold back. Thanos was probably caught off guard with how powerful Strange actually was and that he almost took off the gauntlet by himself.

I have spent 10 minutes for this?! So you mean that bcuz science matches magic in this movie, so the Mark 50 nanosuit plus quantum shrinking device matches the sling ring that has the power to open interdimensional gate. Thus, if Mark 50 can only make Thanos bleed a single drip of blood, that means the ring cannot surpass it?! Wtaf??? What is this nonsense??? I know that the director and everyone in the team involved in the process of this project have tried their best to update the theories and visuals in this movie as close as possible to the modern quantum physics theories. However I dont think screenwriters understood this whole science process. They inconsistently answered some stuffs abt the timeline where Capt went to spend 70 years was the exact main timeline, which is inconsistent to Hulk and Ancient One and ofc the quantum physics the whole movies followed, that they can never go back to the past of their own timeline! The fact that the sling serves as an inter-dimensional portal means that it can open a pathway to transport matters across the space, that’s why when Obsidian tried to get back through the portal, Wong closed it, and Obsidian’s hand was cut, it was because the transportation of matters was shut down so only his hand went through in that amount of time. The portal itself is not a butter knife. Therefore, I believe that the portal can indeed “cut” through Thanos, and in order to make sense of it, I think they should have plotted in mind that Dr. Strange saw this but he simply didnt do it becuz it would be useless for whatever the things Strange saw after that. Maybe he saw Galactus would chase after the stones, so he needed Thanos to destroy them. It’s not that hard to make the plot, but the most important thing is to keep the theories you applied consistent!
